U.S. 64 West
U.S. 158 (Croatan Highway) ends at the junction with North Carolina 12 and the westbound beginning of U.S. 64. U.S. 64 continues Virginia Dare Trail west from North Carolina 12 to the Washington Baum Bridge across Roanoke Sound. Six lanes of freeway travel between Exit 425 and the current east end of Interstate 540. Interstate 540 is the planned full outer beltway of Raleigh. U.S. 64 U.S. 74A West North Carolina Route 9 North
U.S. 64-74A & NC 9 conclude their circuitous route around Lake Lure at a bridge over the Broad River into Chimney Rock. The crossing parallels the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge, a repurposed span covered with gardens and native plants and a pedestrian walkway. Photo taken 12/31/13.

U.S. 64 West
U.S. 64 westbound at the northern terminus of U.S. 178 near the town of Rossman in Transylvania County. U.S. 178 comprises a two-lane highway between here and Rosman, Rocky Bottom, and Pickens, South Carolina. The US highway crosses into the Palmetto State within five miles. Photo taken 07/23/04.
