U.S. 75 travels across northwestern reaches of Iowa from Sioux City north to Rock Rapids. Through Sioux City, U.S. 75 overlaps with I-129 and U.S. 20 along a freeway encircling eastern reaches of the city. U.S. 75 proceeds north into Plymouth County along an expressway to Le Mars, where it shifts onto a freeway bypass. The expressway corridor continues northeast along Multi State Route 60 to Orange City, Sheldon, Sibley and Worthington, Minnesota. U.S. 75 turns due north from Exit 120 along a two lane alignment to Maurice, Sioux Center and Rock Rapids. The highway exits the state into Rock County, Minnesota.

U.S. 75 Iowa Guides

Historically U.S. 75 followed the Interstate 29 corridor northward from Council Bluffs to Missouri Valley, Onawa and Sergeant Bluff. The route was realigned westward into Nebraska over what was U.S. 73 in 1984. The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Route Numbering Committee Agenda on May 23, 1984 outlined U.S. 75 as turning north along I-29 (via Singing Hills Boulevard) in Sioux City and west along I-129 into South Sioux City, Nebraska.

Through Sioux City, U.S. 75 Business was established by AASHTO on October 11, 2002. The bannered route was outlined as following I-29 south 1.1 miles from I-129/U.S. 20-75 to Singing Hills Boulevard (Exit 143), where it hooked east onto Old Highway 75 / Lewis Boulevard north 9.4 miles through the city. U.S. 75 was previously realigned 4.2 miles eastward from I-29/129 along U.S. 20 to U.S. 20 Business (Gordon Drive) and northward 6.2 miles along the freeway being built to existing U.S. 75 along Floyd Boulevard. AASHTO approved this on May 18, 2001.

U.S. 75 was realigned to bypass LeMars along a 5.42 mile long freeway in 2006. Approved by AASHTO on May 6, the relocation of U.S. 75 coincided with the establishment of U.S. 75 Business along the previous 4.65 mile course through the city.
