Through eastern Nebraska, U.S. 75 travels 188 miles north from Richardson County to the Sergeant Floyd Memorial Bridge spanning the Missouri River between South Sioux City and Sioux City, Iowa. Heading north from Dawson, U.S. 75 overtook the historical alignment of U.S. 73 to Auburn and Omaha. U.S. 75 combines with MSR 2 along a bypass of Nebraska City, and with U.S. 34 from Union to Plattsmouth.
North from Plattsmouth and the Platte River, U.S. 75 upgrades to a freeway. The new alignment of U.S. 34 constructed across the Missouri River in 2014 ties into the freeway at Hidden Valley Drive south of Bellevue. U.S. 75 proceeds from there to Offutt Air Force Base, where it splits with an older expressway alignment (Fort Crook Road) that was a previous alignment.
Accumulating commuter traffic from Bellevue and the south Omaha suburbs, U.S. 75 follows the Kennedy Freeway northward to the exchange joining I-80 and I-480 between Highland Park and Hanscom Park in the city of Omaha. U.S. 75 combines with the west leg of I-480 to Midtown, Omaha. I-480 turns east toward Downtown and Council Bluffs while U.S. 75 shifts onto the North Freeway (former Interstate 580).
The North Freeway ties into the Arthur C. Storz Expressway east to Eppley Field (OMA) and Sorenson Pakrway west across north Omaha. U.S. 75 shifts onto N 30th Street, a four lane boulevard to the historic Florence community.
U.S. 75 dog legs west adjacent to I-680 from the Mormon Bridge to N-36. U.S. 75 resumes a northward heading from I-680 and Omaha to Blair. Continuing north along the Lewis & Clark Scenic Byway, the US route parallels the Missouri River to Decatur and Winnbego, where it combines with U.S. 77. U.S. 75/77 overlap for 16 miles to Dakota City and I-129/U.S. 20 at South Sioux City. U.S. 75 turns east alongside I-129/U.S. 20 to Sioux City, Iowa.
U.S. 75 Nebraska Guides
Prior to 1984, U.S. 73 and 75 overlapped north from Dawson to Omaha. Following 13th Street into Downtown Omaha, U.S. 73/75 separated at the couplet of Dodge and Douglas Streets, which carried both U.S. 6 and U.S. 30 Alternate. U.S. 75 accompanied U.S. 6 east across the Ak-Sar-Ben Bridge to Broadway in Council Bluffs, Iowa. With approval by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) on May 23, U.S. 73 was dropped from the overlap to Omaha, with U.S. 75 overtaking the remainder of the route north to Sioux City. This was done to eliminate a long concurrency with I-29 along the Iowa city of the Missouri River.
U.S. 75 was realigned onto the Kennedy Freeway north from Bellevue to Interstate 480 in Omaha with approval by AASHTO on June 20, 1983. AASHTO also approved the relocation of U.S. 75 onto the 4.6 mile bypass of Nebraska City on June 2, 1990.
