U.S. 601 parallels the Interstate 77 corridor from Monroe northward to its terminus at Mount Airy. The route generally stays in rural areas, with exceptions including the overlap with Interstate 85 through Concord and Salisbury and the stretch through Monroe.

U.S. 601 North

U.S. 601 South

Interstate 74 was designated in Surry County in April 2001. The route merges with Interstate 77 north, six miles to the west for a brief overlap to the Virginia state line. Eastward I-74 ends at the merge with U.S. 52, with U.S. 52 doubling as the Future I-74 corridor southeast to Winston-Salem. Photo taken 07/09/10.
