Veterans Parkway is a 6.82 mile long limited access highway joining SR 204 (Abercorn Street Extension) and the South Side of Savannah with I-516/SR 21 (W.F. Lynes Parkway) near Midtown Savannah. Maintained by Chatham County, the unnumbered route also connects with Chatham Parkway and the Rockingham Farms industrial development, which includes over 1,000 acres annexed by the city of Savannah in Summer 2020.1
Originally named the Southwest Bypass, Veterans Parkway provides a bypass route of Abercorn Street, a heavily developed commercialized arterial, between Savannah and Richmond Hill to the southwest. Veterans Parkway was designed and built by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), but turned over to county maintenance upon completion.
Road work upgraded the south end of Veterans Parkway from a signalized intersection into a trumpet interchange. The project began in March 2000 and in 2001 construction got underway on the flyover ramps linking the four lane highway with SR 204.2 Crews completed the $29.5 million project by October 24, 2002.3.
The Rockingham Farms development got underway in Spring 2021 with land clearing and site preparations along Veterans Parkway. A diamond interchange was constructed with Landmark Boulevard West to service the industrial park.1
Buckhalter Road spans Veterans Parkway north of the planned diamond interchange with the Rockingham Farms development.
