"During the Depression, the Artist's projects involved several photographic assignments which yielded all of those classic 1930s Depression photos. One of the more renowned photographers was Roy Stryker, who continued his work well into the 1940s and (I believe) the 1950s, including a project for Standard Oil of New Jersey. In 1986, the University Museum at Santa Barbara (CA) assembled an exhibit of Stryker's highway culture photos, entitled The Highway as Habitat. A few years later, it came to the Sloan Museum in Flint, Michigan, and I went to see it, and bought the exhibit catalogue. Although there were only two photos containing route markers, I scanned them the other night."
