Interstate 35W U.S. 377 North
Spur 280 forms the main route into Downtown Fort Worth from IH 35W. East of the spur, U.S. 287 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Freeway) runs southeast through Fort Worth to IH 820 ahead of Kennedale and Mansfield. There is no access from IH 35W to the US 287 freeway south. 03/11/08
The NTE (North Tarrant Express) TEXpress Lanes along IH 35W commence northward from IH 30 and SS 280 to U.S. 287 near Haslet. SH 121 (Airport Freeway) branches northeast from the directional cloverleaf interchange (Exit 52A) with Spur 280 and U.S. 287 to the immediate north. 03/11/08
Exit 52A loops away from IH 35/U.S. 377 north to Spur 280 west to 4th and 6th Streets. The original interchange here opened in 1960. 03/11/08
Interstate 35W U.S. 287 U.S. 377 North
U.S. 287 north combines with IH 35W north ahead of 4th Street; U.S. 377 and SH 121 split at the subsequent exit. U.S. 377 originates near the Mexican border and runs north to IH 44 in Oklahoma. North of Fort Worth, U.S. 377 forms an important arterial route. 03/11/08
SH 121 extends northeast from Chisholm Trail Parkway and IH 30/35W around Downtown Fort Worth along the Airport Freeway northeast to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and the Sam Rayburn Tollway at Coppell. 03/11/08
Exit 52B departs IH 35W and quickly partitions into ramps for SH 121 (Airport Freeway) and the continuation of U.S. 377 north onto Belkhap Street. SH 121 joins portions of IH 820 and SH 183 eastward through Hurst. Belknap Street leads U.S. 377 northeast to Haltom City. 03/11/08
Interstate 35W U.S. 287 North
The IH 35W roadways diverge through the exchange with SH 121 (Airport Freeway). The NTE TEXpress Lanes were constructed in the place between. IH 35W remains on an early 1960s freeway to Pharr and Carver Streets, minor routes northeast of Downtown. 03/11/08
IH 35W northbound at Exit 52E for Carver Avenue. Carver Avenue serves an isolated residential area bound by the Trinity River and the Union Pacific Railroad line. 03/11/08
IH 35W and U.S. 287 crosses the Trinity River ahead of Exit 53 to Northside Drive and Yucca Avenue. 03/11/08
IH 35W crosses the Trinity River northeast of Downtown. The original crossing dates from 1961, with some upgrades made later. The bridge system was eventually upgraded during work to build the NTE TEXpress Lanes. 03/11/08
Northside Drive turns into Yucca Avenue east of IH 35W/U.S. 287. Both roadways form a northern bypass of Downtown and the stockyards. 03/11/08
SH 183 (NE 28th Street) crosses IH 35W/U.S. 287 next along an arterial route 6.7 miles east to Haltom City, Richland Hills and IH 820/SH 121 at Hurst. SH 183 extends the Airport Freeway east to Irving and Dallas. 03/11/08
Within Fort Worth, SH 183 forms an arterial belt route west to River Oaks and White Settlement and south to Benbrook and IH 20. 28th Street runs east and west through North Fort Worth, home to many old motels and gas stations and generally poorer neighborhoods. 03/11/08
The original six-ramp parclo interchange (old Exits 54A/B) with SH 183 (28th Street) was rebuilt as a diamond interchange with flyovers to the NTE TEXpress Lanes. 03/11/08
Exit 54C to 33rd Street and Long Avenue was removed to accommodate a flyover ramp joining SH 183 with the NTE TEXpress Lanes northbound. 03/11/08
Paralleling the Fort Worth Western Railroad, Long Avenue navigates an S-curve below IH 35W/U.S. 287 eastward toward the center of Haltom City, one of Fort Worth's oldest suburbs. 03/11/08
The succeeding off-ramp is with Meacham Boulevard, an important route on the north side of Fort Worth. 03/11/08
Exit 56A departs IH 35W/U.S. 287 northbound for Meacham Boulevard. Meacham connects the freeway with Fort Worth Meacham International Airport (FTW). The airport originally had commercial service but today generally services corporate and cargo planes. 03/11/08
Exit 56B to Melody Mills Drive was a ramp added after the original freeway opened. The local road runs east to industrial areas at Sylvania Avenue. Signs for Exit 56B were updated to display Beach Street for the North Freeway frontage road connection to NE Loop 820. 03/11/08
Exit 56B separates from IH 35W/U.S. 287 at the Meacham Boulevard underpass. The North Freeway proceeds north to the five-level interchange (Exits 57A/B) with IH 820. 03/11/08
Spanning Little Fossil Creek, IH 35W/U.S. 287 split with the flyover (Exit 57A) for IH 820 east to Haltom City and North Richland Hills. The original exchange with Loop 820 opened in 1967. It was rebuilt into a systems interchange during work to add the NTE TEXpress Lanes. 03/11/08
A left exit formerly joined IH 35W north with IH 820 west to Saginaw and Lake Worth. IH 820 forms the northern two thirds of the Fort Worth Beltway along with IH 20 between Benbrook and Forest Hill. No control cities are used for the freeway loop. 03/11/08
North of IH 820, IH 35W (North Freeway) opened in the early 70s. With auxiliary lanes and the NTE TEXpress Lanes, IH 820 comprises a 12 lane highway here. 03/11/08
