Colorado State Highway 131 begins at Exit 157 along Interstate 70 in Wolcott, then travels north through a variety of small towns until ending at U.S. 40 south of Steamboat Springs. The 68.72 mile long highway provides the most direct route from I-70 to Steamboat Springs.

U.S. 6 West Colorado Highway 131 North
U.S. 6 leads SH 131 west 0.41 miles to its continuation (Route 131A) north to State Bridge, Yampa, Phippsburg and Oak Creek. This confirming marker for U.S. 6 west after SH 131 south was corrected to show a north banner for SH 131 by 2008. 08/27/04

Colorado Highway 131 North
A substandard bridge used to carry SH 131 north from U.S. 6 across the Eagle River. The narrow width span was replaced by 2008 with a modern crossing. 08/27/04
This sign provided the distance to Bond (17 miles), McCoy (21 miles) and Steamboat Springs (74 miles). A replacement made by 2009 switched Bond with State Bridge (14 miles) and McCoy with Oak Bridge (51 miles). 08/27/04
After the narrow bridge spanning the Eagle River, a second SH 131 reassurance marker was placed. SH 131 immediately begins to ascend out of the Eagle River valley and cross mountains that separate the Eagle River from the Colorado River. 08/27/04
SH 131 navigates through an S-curve leading the highway north the Eagle River. SH 131 gains over 200 feet in elevation as it turns northward alongside Alkali Creek. 08/27/04
Progressing north from Wolcott, SH 131 climbs alongside Alkali Creek to a height of 8,174 feet above sea level. The state highway travels around the east side of Horse Mountain toward State Bridge. 08/27/04
Just prior to reaching State Bridge and the intersection with Trough Road, northbound SH 131 crosses the Colorado River. 08/27/04
Trough Road stems east from SH 131 along the Colorado River and Union Pacific Railroad east to SH 9 south of U.S. 40 at Kremmling . Trough Road is designated as County Route 1 in Grand County and is unnumbered in Eagle County. 08/27/04
