Beyond Loveland, U.S. 34 leads to Estes Park, gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park. Just west of Exit 257, Boyd Lake, a 17,000 acre body of water that is popular with swimmers, water skiers and fishing enthusiasts during the warm Summer months, spreads to the north of U.S. 34.

Growing from its original town center at 120th Avenue (SH 128) and Wadsworth Boulevard (SH 121), Broomfield was incorporated as a city in 1961. Eventually taking parts of four counties as it expanded, Broomfield became its own county in 2001.
