California 180

California 180 is the major east-west corridor through Fresno County between California 33 and Sequoia National Park. Plans call for extending California 180 west to meet Interstate 5, but it is unclear when such an extension will be funded. Originally, California 180 was to cross the Sierra Nevada and meet U.S. 395 on the other side of Onion Valley via Whitney Portal near Independence, but that proposed corridor is likely to remain unconstructed due to environmental concerns.

California 180 meets California 145 in Kerman. Note the second sign is partially hidden by a tree. California 145 is a major north-south route in the Central Valley, as it connects California 33 at Avenal with California 41 north of Clovis and Fresno via Five Points, Kerman, and Madera. This series of pictures shows the original connection between eastbound California 180 and California 99 in Fresno before the new freeway was constructed west of California 99. California 180 was relocated to a new freeway that parallels the White Bridge Avenue and West Amador Street. This one-way couplet used to carry California 180 east/west. The signage used to indicate that California 180 may be reached by following southbound California 99, but in reality, traffic must use northbound California 99 to reach the new California 180 freeway. The next exit along California 180/Kings Canyon-Sequoia Freeway east is Exit 60A, California 168 (Sierra Freeway) northeast. Photo taken 12/01/02.
Eastbound California 180/Kings Canyon-Sequoia Freeway reaches Exit 60A, eastbound California 168 (Sierra Freeway). The next exit is Exit 60B, Cedar Avenue. Photo taken 12/01/02.
