Delaware State Route 9
Kitts Hummock Road meanders west from Kitts Hummock on Delaware Bay to Delaware 9 (Bayside Drive). Construction of the diamond interchange between Delaware 1 and 9 realigned the northernmost portion of the roadway onto an S-curve to circumnavigate the new ramps. This scene looks at the previous approach to Bayside Drive. 08/05/07

Kitts Hummock Road branched southeast to connect U.S. 113 (Bay Road) south with Delaware 9 (Bayside Drive) north. This location falls within the footprint now of the SR 1 and 9 interchange now. 04/13/04
Fog produced from a warm front shrouded the northbound beginning of Delaware 9. The new interchange with Delaware 1 opened to traffic in 2009. 04/13/04
This old array of Eagle signals along SR 9 (5th Street) at Clinton Street in Delaware City was replaced by 2005. 04/04/04
These trailblazers for U.S. 13 and Delaware 1 at Hamburg Road were removed by 2008. By 2014 a new assembly referenced the 0.7 mile road west to Dupont Highway for truck traffic. 08/05/07
SR 273 formerly overlapped with SR 9 between SR 141 (Basin Road) and Sixth Street in New Castle. A reassurance marker was posted east of Basin Road by Carrie Downie Elementary until 2013. 07/31/13
A new gore point sign for I-295 was added in place of this assembly in 2020. The adjacent overhead for SR 9 was removed as well. 06/02/12
SR 9 (New Castle Avenue) south at Eden Park and what was Claymont Street west. This vintage signal array was still in place as of 2018. 06/16/00
Delaware 273 previously began at the turn of Delaware 9 south from Sixth Street to Chestnut Street in New Castle. All signs for the state route west were taken down by 2014, but shields here remained through 2016. 04/10/04

The intersection joining SR 9 (Delaware Street / Washington Avenue), SR 141 (Basin Road) and SR 273 (Frenchtown Road) was configured in 2013-14. An end sign was added for SR 273 here at that time. 08/05/07
A set of truss arm signals were located at Delaware 9 (Washington Avenue) and 12th Street for the Washington Park subdivision in New Castle. They were disassembled in 2013. 06/10/12
Removed after 2013, this set of Eagle Flatbacks operated along SR 9 (7th Street) at Center Street in New Castle. 07/31/13
The Eagle traffic lights at Delaware 9 (5th Street) and Clinton Street in Delaware City were replaced with Eagle Mark IV signal heads in 2005. 05/15/05
Mast arm signal assemblies replaced the span wire traffic lights at SR 9 (5th Street) and Clinton Street in Delaware City by 2017. 06/10/12

Bayside Drive led directly to U.S. 113 & Delaware 1 (Bay Road) south to Frederica and Milford. U.S. 113 remained signed at this time, two months after it was decommissioned. 04/13/04
