Interstate 395 District of Columbia

Between the 3rd Street and Mall Tunnels, Interstate 395 expands to three southbound lanes ahead of the two wye directional interchange with I-695 (Southeast Freeway). 06/02/03

Until 2009, Interstate 695 was an unsigned route, and signs for the Southeast Freeway referenced only the connections to either I-295 south or I-395. 08/04/13

The 9th Street SW on-ramp partitions into ramps for I-395 south and Maine Avenue west ahead of the L'Enfant Plaza over crossing. The Maine Avenue off-ramp is significant historically as it was built for unconstructed I-695 (Southwest Freeway) leading west to I-66 at the Lincoln Memorial. 01/02/08

After passing under L'Enfant Plaza, the 9th Street SW ramp merges onto Interstate 395 ahead of the Francis Case Memorial Bridge. The Maine Avenue ramp (planned Interstate 695) continues to Raoul Wallenburg Place. 01/02/08

The right-hand lane of the Interstate 395 Washington Channel bridge defaults to East Potomac Park. The off-ramp joins the freeway with Ohio Drive SW near Basin Drive SW. Use the Potomac Park exit for the East Potomac Golf Course and the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. 09/25/04

Interstate 395 reaches the East Potomac Park island at the Ohio Drive SW loop ramp. The freeway splits with a slip ramp (not signed) joining the Rochambeau Bridge south to the Pentagon and Springfield. U.S. 1 merges onto Interstate 395 from 14th Street SW ahead. 01/02/08

The Richmond Frederick Potomac Railroad line passes over Interstate 395 south at the dual wye interchange between U.S. 1, Interstate 395, and the Rochambeau Bridge. U.S. 1 travels across the Potomac River with Interstate 395 from East Potomac Park to the Jefferson Davis Highway interchange (Exit 9) north of Crystal City and Alexandria. Interstate 395 meets the George Washington Parkway (Exits 10B/A) on the west banks of the Potomac in one half mile. 01/02/08
