I-66 was previously restructed to HOV-2 traffic in the eastbound direction weekdays between 6:30 and 9:00 AM. The HOV-2 restriction shifted to the westbound direction between the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Bridge and I-495 between 4:00 and 6:30 PM weekdays 07/11/05
Interstate 495 south (outer) passed under SR 738 (Old Dominion Road) one mile from Exits 45 A/B to SR 267 / Dulles Access Road. This bridge represents the northern extant of the Express Lanes project for the Capital Beltway started in 2008. 07/11/05

A direct interchange (Exit 49) joins Interstate 495 with Interstate 66 near Merrifield. Exit 49 provides direct access to Interstate 66 west. 07/11/05
Exit 45 A departed I-495 south for SR 267 (Hirst Brault Expressway) and Dulles Access Road west. SR 267 continues beyond the airport as a toll road to SR 7 at Leesburg. 07/11/05

Exits 46A/B remain a full-cloverleaf interchange with Virginia 123 at Tysons Corner. The tree lined median is now home to the 495 ExpressLanes and ramps to Jones Branch Drive. 07/11/05
SR 123 (Chain Bridge Road) leads west through Tysons Corner to SR 7 en route to Vienna and Fairfax. The state route comprises a 31-mile arc between U.S. 1 at Woodbridge and the District of Columbia line at Chain Bridge. 07/11/05
Exit 46B leaves Interstate 495 south for Virginia 123 (Chain Bridge Road) north. An overpass now connects the HOT lanes with Westpark Drive in this scene. 07/11/05
A full-cloverleaf interchange (Exits 47A/B) joined I-495 with Virginia 7 (Leesburg Pike) next. Construction of the 495 ExpressLanes saw the removal of the loop ramp from SR 7 east onto I-495 north. 07/11/05

An interchange sequence sign listed the distances to U.S. 50 (Exit 50), Virginia Secondary 650 (Exit 51), and Virginia 236 (Exit 52) at the Oak Street overpass. These interchanges lie south of the forthcoming directional cloverleaf interchange with Interstate 66 (Exit 49). 07/11/05
Interstate 66 angles southwestward from the Falls Church area to Vienna and Fairfax. Exit 49 provides access to Interstate 66 west to Manassas, Front Royal, and Interstate 81. 07/11/05
Exit 49 left Interstate 495 (Capital Beltway) south for Interstate 66 west. This is now a two-lane ramp. Interstate 66 meets Virginia 243 near Vienna and Virginia 123 north of Fairfax within the next five miles. 07/11/05
Passing under the Interstate 66 main line overpass and the Metro Orange Line, motorists saw this mileage sign. The sign was replaced and the distance to U.S. 50 (Exit 50) was reduced by one quarter mile. 07/11/05
Interests to the Orange Line Dunn Loring-Merrifield Station should use Exit 50A to Virginia Secondary 650 (Gallows Road) north. There is no direct access to U.S. 29 (Lee Highway) from the Capital Beltway mainline. A northbound exit from the 495 ExpressLanes was added however. 07/11/05
Exit 50 partitioned from Interstate 495 south as a c/d roadway for U.S. 50 (Arlington Boulevard) at Merrifield. U.S. 50 travels east along Arlington Boulevard from Fairfax to the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Bridge of Interstate 66. 07/11/05
Gallows Road parallels I-495 south from Tysons Coner and Merrifield to a SPUI with U.S. 50 (Arlington Boulevard). South from Merrifield, SSR 650 turns east to cross paths with Interstate 495 at Exit 51. 07/11/05
Forested frontage preceded the Exit 51 off-ramp on Interstate 495 south. Inova Fairfax Hospital lies along Gallows Road north between Exit 51 and U.S. 50. 07/11/05
A mileage sign was attached to the Gallows Road overpass and posted six miles before the Beltway joined Interstate 95 north. A new mileage sign posted ahead of Exit 51 lists I-95/395 at 5.5 miles. 07/11/05

Southbound at the loop ramp to Virginia 236 (Little River Turnpike) east on Interstate 495. Virginia 236 comes close to Interstate 495 again within Alexandria. The state route meets Interstate 395 at Landmark. 07/11/05
SR 620 (Braddock Road) converges with Interstate 495 at Exit, a three-quarter cloverleaf interchange at Ravensworth. 07/11/05
The loop ramp from SR 620 west to I-495 south was removed to accommodate a new ramp to the 495 ExpressLanes. 07/11/05
SR 620 (Braddock Road) west leads to George Mason University and the Patriot Center for the Arts outside Fairfax. Eastbound Braddock Road connects with Backlick Road (SR 617 south) for the Virginia Railway Express - Backlick Road commuter rail station. 07/11/05
I-495 turns southeasterly toward Springfield where the distributor roadway separates for Exit 54. SR 620 follows Braddock Road east through Annandale to Lincolnia and SR 244 (Columbia Pike). 07/11/05
Braddock Road continues west 2.2 miles to Burke Lake Road (Virginia Secondary 645) west. SSR 620 continues overall to Virginia 28 at Centreville. 07/11/05
Exit 54 B loops onto SR 620 (Braddock Road) east from Interstate 495 south. There is no longer return access here with the removal of the westbound SR 620 to southbound entrance ramp. 07/11/05
