I-95/495 Capital Beltway - Outer Loop

I-66 was previously restructed to HOV-2 traffic in the eastbound direction weekdays between 6:30 and 9:00 AM. The HOV-2 restriction shifted to the westbound direction between the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Bridge and I-495 between 4:00 and 6:30 PM weekdays 07/11/05

Interstate 495 south (outer) passed under SR 738 (Old Dominion Road) one mile from Exits 45 A/B to SR 267 / Dulles Access Road. This bridge represents the northern extant of the Express Lanes project for the Capital Beltway started in 2008. 07/11/05

Older guide signs for Interstate 66 east (Exit 45B) included a dynamic message board listing the HOV-2 restrictions. 07/11/05

A direct interchange (Exit 49) joins Interstate 495 with Interstate 66 near Merrifield. Exit 49 provides direct access to Interstate 66 west. 07/11/05

Exit 45 A departed I-495 south for SR 267 (Hirst Brault Expressway) and Dulles Access Road west. SR 267 continues beyond the airport as a toll road to SR 7 at Leesburg. 07/11/05

Passing over Dulles Access Road, drivers on I-495 saw another trailblazer referencing westbound Interstate 66 for Exit 49. 07/11/05

Exit 45 B joins Dulles Access Road east to Interstate 66 east for Washington. The left exit remained following the completion of the 495 ExpressLanes. 07/11/05

Exits 46A/B remain a full-cloverleaf interchange with Virginia 123 at Tysons Corner. The tree lined median is now home to the 495 ExpressLanes and ramps to Jones Branch Drive. 07/11/05

SR 123 (Chain Bridge Road) leads west through Tysons Corner to SR 7 en route to Vienna and Fairfax. The state route comprises a 31-mile arc between U.S. 1 at Woodbridge and the District of Columbia line at Chain Bridge. 07/11/05

Exit 46B leaves Interstate 495 south for Virginia 123 (Chain Bridge Road) north. An overpass now connects the HOT lanes with Westpark Drive in this scene. 07/11/05

A full-cloverleaf interchange (Exits 47A/B) joined I-495 with Virginia 7 (Leesburg Pike) next. Construction of the 495 ExpressLanes saw the removal of the loop ramp from SR 7 east onto I-495 north. 07/11/05

Virginia 7 (Leesburg Pike) continues northwest from Tysons Corner to Dranesville and Leesburg and overall to Winchester. 07/11/05

SR 7 (Leesburg Pike) angles southeast from Exit 47 B to the independent city of Falls Church and U.S. 1 in Alexandria. 07/11/05

An interchange sequence sign listed the distances to U.S. 50 (Exit 50), Virginia Secondary 650 (Exit 51), and Virginia 236 (Exit 52) at the Oak Street overpass. These interchanges lie south of the forthcoming directional cloverleaf interchange with Interstate 66 (Exit 49). 07/11/05

Interstate 66 angles southwestward from the Falls Church area to Vienna and Fairfax. Exit 49 provides access to Interstate 66 west to Manassas, Front Royal, and Interstate 81. 07/11/05
