Interstate 794 Wisconsin


An interchange sequence sign outlined the three mainline exits of Interstate 794 north. This sign bridge was replaced during construction in 2014. 08/12/09

This sign bridge, similar to structures previously found in Louisiana and Pennsylvania, was also replaced during the deck replacement project along the Hoan Bridge in 2014. 08/12/09

This overhead was carbon copied by 2015, but without U.S. 41 as the route was relocated away from Downtown Milwaukee as part of the signing of Interstate 41. 08/12/09

Exit 1F lowers from I-794 north to U.S. 18 (Michigan Street). A stub was built into the off-ramp for the unconstructed continuation of the Lake Freeway north. 08/12/09

Passing through the Lake Interchange, the former ramp from I-794 east to Lincoln Memorial Drive comes into view. This connection was replaced as part of the 2016 Lakefront Gateway Project. 08/12/09

Sign changes made at the completion of the Marquette Interchange project replaced all the guide signs leading west to the exchange with I-43 and I-94. 09/02/05

The left-hand exit for STH-32 (Milwaukee Street) departed I-794 west as the former high speed ramp from Lincoln Memorial Drive merged in from the right. 08/12/09

This diagrammatic sign posted one quarter mile ahead of the Marquette Interchange was replaced during the 2014-project to rebuild the I-794 viaduct. 08/12/09

Entering the Marquette Interchange, I-794 ends as I-94 turns from the North South Freeway onto the East West Freeway. Prior to 2015, I-94 doubled as U.S. 41 between I-894 an the Stadium Freeway. 08/12/09

The 1960s-built viaduct for Interstate 794 east carried four overall lanes through to Plankinton Avenue. Construction completed by December 2008 separated traffic into four separate roadways through to Exit 1D. 09/02/05

Plankinton Avenue is not accessible from the I-794 mainline now. Instead motorists are directed onto Exit 1H for James Lovell Street to reach the adjacent Kilbourn Town area. 09/02/05

Crossing the 1969-viaduct over the Milwaukee River along I-794 east. A double lane drop occurred previously for Jackson Street (Exit 1E). The rebuilt roadway now carries three through lanes with inside and outside shoulders. 09/02/05

Construction in 2014 replaced the Exit 1E off-ramp to carry three lanes to Van Buren Street north and a dedicated turn lane for Jackson Street south. 05/30/11

Van Buren Street leads motorists north one block to U.S. 18 (Michigan Street). A separate ramp joins Clybourn Street west back to Wis 32 (Broadway / Milwaukee Streets). 05/30/11

A high speed ramp formerly stemmed east to intersect Lincoln Memorial Drive just south of Clybourn Street. This ramp was closed in 2016 and replaced with a new slow speed ramp curving to the southeast. 09/02/05

Turning southward, Interstate 794 transitions from the East West Freeway to the Lake Freeway. 09/02/05

Lincoln Memorial Drive split into ramps for Interstate 794 just south of Clybourn. Work in 2016 extended the road southward to Chicago Street. 05/30/11
