Interstate 65 Alabama - South Archive

Originally the third lane of Interstate 65 southbound defaulted onto Alabama 152 (North Boulevard) east at Exit 173. When the freeway was limited to four lanes, speed limits reduced to a "strictly enforced" 50 miles per hour. They are now set at 60 mph. Guard rails were also replaced along the southbound side of Interstate 65 in 2010. 06/18/05

The three lane span taking I-65 across the Alabama River was expanded to four lanes with a partial shoulder by Fall 2010. All three overheads here were retained on a new sign bridge, but eventually but replaced in 2011. 06/18/05

A new sign bridge installed at Clayton Street replaced the bridge mounted overheads for Interstates 65 south and 85 north. All concrete pavement remaining along I-65 through Montgomery was overlaid with asphalt during the 2006-10 widening project. 10/03/10

With four lanes of concrete, Interstate 65 south partitioned with the ramps for the Day Street connector west and I-85 north. Interstate 85 represents a major corridor between Montgomery and Atlanta with a large section of eight lane freeway through north Georgia. 06/18/05
