When planning a walking route, Google recommended I walk through military housing, which I did not realize until I got there.  It was not gated, but it had stern warnings about unauthorized people entering.  And then, when I entered, a security patrol car passed by, but paid me no mind.  The path was to lead me to a waterfront park, and there I found a big hole in a fence to pass through to continue my walk.  The tide was out, and I could have walked around it anyway.  By the time I got to the housing, the only other way through was a longish detour.  Google is weird sometimes.

Billy Joel informs me that he cannot take it anymore.
"Officer, I'm always careful to drive the speed limit no matter where I am and that's what I was doin'." Said "No, you weren't," she said, "Yes, I was." He said, "Madam, I just clocked you at 22 MPH," and she said "That's the speed limit," he said "No ma'am, that's the route numbah!"  - Gary Crocker

Railroad lights are flashing? With no train?

If you look closely, the junction box at the base of one of the crossing signal and gate masts is open, plus there is hole at that same foundation (with a shovel).  That means they just replaced something or straightened the mast.  Also, the flashing light signals (FLS) on that gate mast are still not working.  I don't see a new gate mechanism, so my guess is that something hit the gate mast hard enough to mess up the signal cables.

The workers are probably inspecting the crossing to make sure the lights/gates/etc. work properly.

That's what I thought seeing the CSX trucks. Also...

I dunno, the track seems like an active one. What makes you think it's inactive?

No wonder they didn't cover some important routes since 2007: they send two cars to the same residential street!

the rails look quite rusty. if it's active, it's not very active.

You are correct.  The tracks still go to Oswego, but the active rail service section only goes a few miles north of Baldwinsville.  This crossing is less than 2 miles south of the last remaining rail customer.

Interesting I found this impound of obvious I-37 BGSs nowhere near I-37.  Some of the exist numbers and overall exits match up with I-37's.  I know it's a vendor making these signs, just strange they all (but 1 I saw) are for I-37.

If you scroll a bit you can see a few signs from the Austin area, such as a US-79 for Round Rock, and one way in the back with an I-35 sign and a control city starting "Ho–" (wonder what that is, since Houston would make no sense for I-35).

Also, the US shields on those signs look off.

Texas has had a few (US Highway shields) lately that look off.  The new US-183 toll extension and interchange with SH-71 in Austin has a bunch of US-183 shields on BGSs that really make me cringe when I look at them.  The are very close to the old "acorn" shields.  Was that Nebraska or Wisconsin that had those?

My guess is, since in the same bunch I see a sign for the exit for Parmer Lane, plus an exit tab for exit 243, is that the whole bunch of signs there are for the north Austin area, particularly where the redesign of the I-35/US-183 interchange is.  Yes, Parmer is a bit more north than that, but it can ride with the rest of them.  Anyway, my guess is that it is probably supposed to be for an entrance ramp to the cosigned area of I-35 and US-290, giving a control city for US-290 of Houston.  Why it would be labeled first, and not the control city of the interstate is baffling.
