The 2011 NASCAR season got underway Sunday with the 53rd running of the Daytona 500.

The famed Wood Brothers got their fifth Daytona 500 win with 20 year old Trevor Bayne, the youngest Daytona 500 winner ever.

This was also only the second Sprint Cup start for Bayne.

I was quite impressed with Trevor's win on Sunday. Luckily for him he was in the right place at the right time. With a win like that, it should give him some great momentum to do well for the remainder of the season. Though today he decided to stick with going after the Nationwide championship instead of switching to go for the Sprint Cup championship:

He will definitely be one to watch though for many years to come. Who knows, maybe he'll be the driver to surpass Jimmie Johnson's dynasty one day...

It wasn't a win, but coming from 3 laps down to finish 10th in the 500 and then getting wrecked early at Phoenix and finishing 13th is pretty good for an old man like Mark Martin.  :D

^^^

And that puts him 6th in the standings.  Just think of what he might do if he can avoid the wrecks!

I'm so hoping this is the old man's year! Since this will probably (but never say never) be his last full-time season, I hope he does well in as many races as possible. For all the years I've been watching I've never been rooting for him more! I certainly wish that the switch of pit crews with Gordon will greatly increase his chances. And since this weekends race is in Vegas, he should do fairly well...of course I probably just jinxed him... :-o

Wow, such support for my man!  I'm liking this...  :)

FLRoads

Well I've been a Mark Martin fan for a number of years. My dad and sister are also huge fans of him, as well as a couple of friends of mine. It's good to know that there are other MM fans out there!! And any race he can finish better than Kyle Busch or Jimmie Johnson the better!! I'm not sure how others on here feel about those two, but I'm so ready for someone else to win the championship, Sprint or otherwise...

Right now, I'm preparing to make my 3rd spring trip to Bristol.

And, the "old man" Mark Martin qualified in 9th.  Now, he just got to keep out of the wrecks.

You going to be at the track for the Nationwide race tomorrow?  If so, is it possible to get some pictures of the #41?  I'm one of the Admins @ Carl Long's website. ;)

Went to Bristol a few years ago as a birthday/Christmas gift. I would love to return to watch the August race though as when I was up there it was a little on the chilly side...

Lets hope Mark can stay near the front. I know short tracks are usually not his favorite.

I afraid I'm not.  Tomorrow is our travel day.  I'm not much into the Nationwide Series.

I week or two ago, I finally uploaded my race photos from the last three years.  They are not yet cropped or annotated, but they are there.

Anybody going to be in Charlotte on the 26th?  They are having an autographing session over @ Ganassi in the morning for Montoya and McMurray.  I already have scored wristbands for it, and they are currently out, but are giving out another 85 on Monday & 15 on the day of the event.

Go down to "May 09 Attention Race Fans!".

In some of the races this season, the racers are driving in a very strange way, in pairs with one guy tailgating another guy! It looks really weird. Why are they driving like this?
:hmmm:

Apparently, the aero package for this year favors these two=car drafts on the plate tracks. I called it "Noah's Ark racing" on Facebook and I hate it.

Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

We call it "Love Bug" racing. Anyone familiar with them will get it.  :-D

Thought I would post this here for now, but does anybody happen to have a diecast of Kurt Busch's 2001 #97 Ford?

I have a 1:64 of his first win car, but that was in '02.

Olive Garden must be stopped.  I must stop them.

Don't @ me. Seriously.

Alex

The overtaking of Jeff Burton by Clint Bowyer in the final two laps at Talladega made up for the ridiculous 7-lap caution leading toward it. Probably going to be pulling for the new #15 driver next year.  :)

Takumi

Stewart made a great pass for the win today! I think it's down to just Smoke and Edwards.

Way to take it home for the Cup, Stewart!!!

FLRoads

Indeed, way to go Stewart!! So glad you made that executive decision to conserve fuel and pit when you did (before that last rain caution). This win is well deserved!!!!! Congrats!!!!!

Takumi

Yeah, Tony! Great finish to the season. I have to give Carl credit, though, he put up a great fight all the way to the checkered flag.
