I'm loving this weather down here.  I've had the window open all day and there is a nice breeze coming in.

Low 60s and cloudy, as it has been yesterday. Definitely beats the triple digits being felt in other cities.

Quote from: gonealookin on June 21, 2025, 04:52:18 PMIn early afternoon where I am it's 53°F and breezy.  There's no precipitation but it's not exactly a beach day.

Following up, we had the worst boating accident on Lake Tahoe in quite some time yesterday afternoon.

The forecast was for unusually cool conditions but storminess wasn't in the forecast.  You always hear, in the mountains, be ready for rapid and dramatic changes in the weather, and this was a classic example.

Here's some data from yesterday from the NDOT weather sensor nearest my house, elevation 6263 feet (just above lake level).  The air temperature is the first column after the time, then you have dewpoint and relative humidity.  The partially-filled column before the wind data is wind chill.

So it was a cool but not very windy morning.  I'm imagining these people thinking, yeah, it's not as warm as we'd like but it's summer so the weather can't get that bad.  We're here, so let's take the boat out!

Around noon the wind starts kicking up, and at 2 p.m. the storm hits with force.  Wind starts getting very gusty and the temperature plunges (from 53°F to 43°F in 21 minutes; I was looking out the window at graupel).  That lake can see some rough waves in windy conditions.  The boaters were out on a cool June day and suddenly got hit with a big blast of February, and they probably just couldn't handle it.

7/8

Both yesterday and today are blisteringly hot for Ontario standards. Yesterday was mainly sunny and reached 33C (91F) with a humidex of 44C (111F). Similarly, today is also mainly sunny and could reach 34C (93F).

I keep thinking of this scene from Always Sunny :-D

I thought to look at your Bluesky account and am impressed that you traveled that far to see the South Siders.  And they rewarded you with a win!  Also nice of the Jays to close the roof and air-condition that place with the described weather.

We've actually wanted to do a Toronto trip for several years now. We were just waiting until we finally had a year when the Sox were in town when the kids weren't in school.

Quote from: gonealookin on June 21, 2025, 04:52:18 PMHappy first full day of summer!  The Central Sierra Snow Lab is near Donner Summit, just off I-80.

Caltrans cameras at Donner Summit are also showing the snow alongside the road, though the pavement itself would be too warm for it to stick.

I'd still rather have the 100° heat indices I'm having this week than this.

Most of South Texas will be around normal for late June, although some places will even top out several degrees below average in the afternoon.  Even the dew points have eased up quite a bit as we'll only see mid-70s at the most.  Unlike what is happening in the Eastern half of the country lately, we rarely ever see heat waves here in our area; in fact it's already been exactly two years since the last heat wave when we experienced Heat Index in the 130's in late June 2023; thankfully we are nowhere near those numbers this June.

                                  ACTUAL                            AVERAGE
BROWNSVILLE:       95 high; 80 low                96 high; 78 low
CORPUS CHRISTI:   93 high; 81 low                95 high; 80 low
LAREDO:               100 high; 78 low              102 high; 77 low
MCALLEN:               96 high; 78 low                99 high; 79 low

NIGHTTIME HEAT INDEX:  80 to 95 degrees
DAYTIME HEAT INDEX:  100 to 110 degrees
We're so far south that we're not even considered "The South"

Road Hog

June weather is slipping into July a little in North Texas. Partly to mostly cloudy and highs in the low 90s but very humid with occasional rain chances. Was supposed to get a good rain last night but it fizzled before it got here, as it always does.

The most important thing: No 100's in sight — yet (today, July 1, is the average first 100º day in DFW). There have only been 2 summers on record since 1898 that the mercury never hit 100º in Dallas.

Hazy... Houston's been getting a pretty massive Saharan dust cloud this week.

Somehow I didn't even hear about Chantal (which was only a tropical depression) until I was curious and looked up if anything existed. It made landfall in South Carolina early on Sunday and is headed straight for me, resulting in chances of light rain pretty much the entire week here in Massachusetts.
