The Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) is a six-block area around the East Precinct of Seattle PD on Capitol Hill that has been transformed from a police-enforced riot zone to a community block party. There's free food, artwork, gardens, and of course road signs:

Also this mural on Pine Street:

(Despite what the national media says, this is not a citywide "takeover". I was able to drive into the area and find plenty of parking, only saw one unarmed guard at the vehicle barrier, and plenty of medic tents.)

That Exit sign is a total abortion.  All that effort and the best they could do is come up with a highway shield rendition of Guybrush Threepwood?

So, on the topic of CHAZ signing...
Anyone brave enough to go in their and enforce the MUTCD?

I mean, it's not exactly state-maintained signage...
Also, I love that roadgeeks see "protesters take over six blocks of downtown Seattle, police retreat from precincts" and the immediate reaction is "Road signs!"

It's also an example of why using too many abbreviations isn't a good thing.  CHAZ sounds like a dude you'd meet at the local sports bar who has been down on his luck after being laid off from the paper factory.

I'm interested to know the numbering schematics that allow for "exit 1312."

I kind of wonder how much some of those signs would go for on eBay or a signage swap meet.

Doubt that a MUTCD would fit in very well with the concept behind CHAZ.

Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

Using I-5's mileage from the Mexican border actually gets you pretty close (about 40 miles off).

Instead of a typical Department of Transportation, there should be DOGS: Department Of Graffiti Signs.

Around here, CHOP is the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia which is one of the top children's hospitals in the country.  We were there plenty of times for our son in his early years (doing great now though).  I hope they move on to another acronym...

I'm dumbfounded that anybody bothered to make road signs.  Maybe roadgeekery is more common than I assumed.

The forum rules are "political discussion is discouraged."  It is illogical to limit the talk to the "signing, striping, and roads of CHAZ" in an forum called "Off-Topic."

I mean are we only allosed to talk about the road-related aspects of the Coronavirus in that topic?
