A road looping through a large apartment complex in my town has an unusual numbering system that assigns a unique house number to each apartment. The first one or two digits indicate the building number; the next, hundreds, digit, one of up to four entrances to that building; the tens digit, the floor; and the final digit, the apartment on that floor. The highest number on this street, less than a mile long, is 28334. This is a huge house number in New England, where grid address systems are almost nonexistent. Does this system exist anywhere else?

I have seen a similar type of numbering for dependent addresses for apartment units, but not as primary address numbers.

Way back when, my old apartment was #211 when I moved in. For some reason, the management company changed the numbering around to #2205 for reasons that are still unclear to me.

This is not unusual, but an apartment complex close to my town has a similar system. There is a few roads, including one that loops around much of the complex. The numbering system is like this:

XXXX: Building number.
XXXX: Floor.
XXXX: Unit number.

The lowest number is 1001, and the highest is in the 155XX range.
