Apparently we have an air quality index of 183 from all the fires in Central California.
Tahoe has been pretty smoky the last couple days but better today, more of a haze than discernible smoke.  PurpleAir is showing us in the 130s for AQI today, while the Fresno area and much of the Central Valley is 200 or worse.  Satellite loop suggests that the air flow is trapping smoke in the Valley and foothills today, not letting it over the Sierra until you get to the northern end of the Sierra and on up toward Lassen.

The natural basin which is San Joaquin Valley lends itself to poor air quality even during normal summers.  The air hasn't been too bad early in the morning but once the sun rises all that debris ends up being tossed around.  I'm just glad that I'll be out of here in a few days en route to Mammoth.

High 70s and overcast, with some sprinkled showers. A bit relieving after the previous week but it needs to get colder. Wearing a light jacket for rain protection is stifling in the heat.

90 and hazy here in northern IL.

When I got home from work yesterday, I pretended to mow my pretend lawn.

The last time Wichita recorded more than 1 inch of rain was July 21.  Since the start of August, we've had 0.8 inches total, with only one day so far this month topping 0.03 inches–and that was two weeks ago.

It had probably been a month since I last mowed.  And I didn't even bother mowing the whole back yard yesterday, because I wouldn't have been able to tell where I'd already mowed.

We've been getting brown patches over here too.  Funnily enough, although there has been little in the way of actual rain, last week was full of cloud cover with temperatures in the eighties and heavy humidity.

My weather today.....HURRICANE BITCH FROM HELL!!!!

Temps in the low 70s.
Runnin' roads and polishin' rails.

Part of the Springfield, MO area is under a D2 drought. I haven't received rain in a good two weeks. Now, it is coming down hard with lots of wind, with a severe thunderstorm warning. This storm is unrelated to Laura, which missed the Ozark region except maybe the eastern border of it.

Ever since some of Marco's remnants impacted us at the start of last week, it's been just plain hot and muggy here in Atlanta, without much in the way of rain. We were supposed to get some of Laura's rain bands on Friday night, but those dissipated before they could make it past Alabama. Plus we've generally missed out on the usual afternoon thunderstorms this week.

But today's weather did not disappoint. After a very muggy day with dewpoints nearing the mid-70s, a big complex thunderstorms formed right over Atlanta around four hours ago and is only now starting to die out and move off to the northeast. A couple severe thunderstorm warnings were issued earlier, but the big story with these has been flooding. Multiple flash flood and river flood warnings are currently in effect around the metro area, and the ATL airport picked up 2.7 inches of rain in about 3 hours.

Overcast and in the 70s. Most of the rain that has impacted the southern and eastern Ozarks has missed me, and this labor day weekend will be a busy one, now that the rivers are now floatable again.

About to ramp up into the 80s and maybe 90s again as summer goes through its usual last hurrah. Also wildfire smoke from California will start drifting north and giving us crazier sunsets.

CoreySamson

Highs in the low 90s this week but late next week there'll be a cold front that'll bring the temperature down to (gasp!) the mid 80s.

Basically no rain for the past 2 or 3 weeks except for two brief downpours from random thunderclouds. Strangely, I got no rain from Laura at all.

My area was forecasted to get about an inch from Laura, but it turned out that the only areas in the Ozarks that got rain from it were the eastern border regions. A day later, my area got much needed rain from a completely different storm.

Today was probably the first day this week it has been <50% cloud cover this week. It was hot today, and it will stay in the mid to upper 80s for the next week.
