Some modern traffic lights try to get a old design style like this one on Grande-Allée Blvd at Boisbriand (a Montreal suburb) at the intersection of A-640 freeway ramp and a local street http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=45.622817,-73.850634&spn=0.004562,0.02738&z=16&layer=c&cbll=45.62281,-73.850638&panoid=nDLKMVd-gNi5ZvCfgblJUw&cbp=11,173.66,,0,0.42

and another one on St-Charles street not too far from the previous one http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=45.643733,-73.859711&spn=0.00456,0.02738&z=16&layer=c&cbll=45.643733,-73.85972&panoid=5xHDqsehA1xLCMF_UIrzHw&cbp=11,295.16,,0,2.81

What does the black & white border under the "Don't Block The Box" sign say?

Arkadelphia, 12th & Pine (AR 8)

Not close enough for me to see it. Nice to know it is still around... Gems like this are becoming harder to find with signal standardization.

Or, it could be times that the sign is in effect.

That section on NJ 21 is about to get overhauled as part of a massive private development and PED safety improvement project in Downtown.  Also this section of NJ 21 will get cameras , it is one of the last sections of Un-camera road in Newark.  Newark has one of the nations largest Camera Security system even beating out NYC in some depts.  Most Busy intersections now have Red Light Cameras and all but a few regular intersections have cameras , there are cameras on the ramps , Bridges , Catenary poles , all NJT stations , Downtown is blanked with Cameras.  This system is part of Mayor Bookers Crime reduction program , which is working crime is down 28% in 4 years , and Gun Violence is down 47%.  Also in the West Ward at Intersections they have Gun Dectors which are hooked into the regular cameras.  When a gun goes off the Cameras in that area go on a alert and it nofitys NPD.  hmmmm, what else is there, oh yes , every Business in Downtown , University Heights , Ironbound , North of I-280 is hooked into the main system so if a crime occurs in the store or area ,they can have the cameras scan the area.  Getting back to the NJ 21 Traffic Lights they will be replaced with these.

The People don't really care , they just want crime to go down, also investments are coming back due to this system.  There in Public areas , and the businesses wanted to join.

IMHO That's a big problem in this country.

As Ben Franklin said:

They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security.

Newark went form the Murder Capital of the US to slightly Below the National Average for a city of its size.  Alot of my friends in Newark like and want more Cameras.

There should be a better way to fix the problem rather than the city of Newark playing Big Brother.

(As this is off-topic and I don't want to get into a long drawn out discussion, this is my final word on the subject in this topic.)

I've seen RR signals like that before, but can't remember where, off-hand.

However, there's still a wig-wag in Joplin, MO (kudos to Scott5114 for the tip)

Yay wig-wags!!!  :)

We have a few of those overhead crossing signals here too, though long out of service, near Xavier University in Norwood.  The first picture is on Dana Avenue, at Idlewild Junction where the the Cincinnati, Lebanon & Northern (part of the Pennsy system) crossed a junction of the Norfolk & Western's Cincinnati Connecting Belt Railroad and their Peavine line to Portsmouth, Ohio.  The second picture is farther up the N&W connecting belt where it crosses Sherman Avenue.  Maybe they're a N&W thing?

agentsteel53

there are some wigwags in Fresno, CA - I do not have a photo of them offhand, alas.
