Totally off-topic for the purposes of this game, but I'm presuming that the guardrail (this isn't New York) in the picture is at the end of a bridge abutment. That's a really odd configuration where the guardrail fans out, presumably to accommodate a wider piece of guardrail on a bridge railing. Most of the ones I've seen fan out in a Y shape. This one keeps the original vertical alignment with a piece dropping down. I'm not sure I've seen that before.

Can any of the engineering types or those obsessed with guardrails provide some background and a technical term for that?
