The Farrington Highway, this one is an eight-chapter blog given the huge amount of route numbering designations:

The final entry on Gribblenation is the unsigned Hawaii Routes on Oahu.  Expect to see a Roadwaywiz episode coming up on Oahu likely next month:

Roadwaywiz Webinar with three Gribblenation members to close out O'ahu:

One in my occasional series of "PGA Tour meets Roadgeeking" posts.

I've been at the Sony Open, played this weekend at Waialae Country Club, east of Diamond Head.  Network television would like you to think golf in Hawaii is all waving palm trees and ukelele music, and some of it is (17th green here).

The back side of Waialae is very close to the eastern end of Interstate H-1 though.  Here's a view of the green on the 5th hole.  That's the eastern end of the H-1 viaduct; the signal that marks the eastern end of H-1 is pretty close to the 5th tee, so about 460 yards to the right of this.  Not so much ukelele music as the din of highway traffic out there.

I'm just wondering how "Oahu" got transformed into "O’ahu" as the topic name?  I fixed it in an original post edit just a minute or two ago.

Guessing it was originally Oʻahu and the ʻokina got corrupted.

Those three funny characters are the UTF-8 code for "right single quotation mark" which looks like a raised comma.

Here's one pasted in from Character Map: '

Someone probably typed it on a keyboard that could generate that character, but it went into the Post Reply box as three characters.

The ʻokina is U+02BB ʻ MODIFIER LETTER TURNED COMMA. While it looks like a single quotation mark (many fonts use identical glyphs for them), the two are treated differently in situations like alphabetization (the ʻokina is considered a letter in Hawaiian, rather than punctuation).

I get a capital G with a dot over it for 0288, as below:

Likely goes back to when I had to import the database from MySQL 5.5 to MariaDB 10.6. Nonetheless I went ahead and fixed the subjects for this thread.

That's hex 02BB, not decimal 0288.
