There's a 'Mark Unread' button at the bottom beside the 'Print' button.

Quote from: JoePCool14 on March 29, 2024, 02:04:10 PMGood to know we can at least still hover to see individual title posts. It would be nice to see it brought back like it used to be though, if it's still an option in SMF.

Found the option and turned it back on. ;)

Where did signature pictures go? My profile picture (Imagine..) shows but my signature image (Tardar Sauce a/k/a Grumpy Cat) does not.
Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

It looks like it was hosted on a page on the AARoads website but got discontinued/archived. Said image likely exists elsewhere.

I still see it, including on mobile. (Real, not April Fools.)

Because your signature image was in the 'old' gallery.  That info wasn't ported over when repairing the database.

The 'NEW' image is now back. :)  Took several trials and errors on my offline forum finding the best placement spot for it (and the proper code to get it to work right), but it's now working. :)

Whenever I post something in a thread, I've noticed that it automatically adds it to my watchlist. It remains on the list unless I manually go in and remove it.

However, if I remove the thread from my watchlist once (like this one), it doesn't return to the list.

I saw it today and went back to this thread to Like whoever fixed it (:

To prevent threads from automatically being added to your 'watchlist', do the following:

Profile -> Notifications -> unclick the button for "Follow topics I create and reply to" -> Click the 'Save Settings' button at the bottom of that page.

Love having the "NEW" label back, thank you rickmastfan67.

I've noticed that profile picture limits have changed, my fingerpost profile picture (which I've used for like 10+ years now) is much smaller than it used to be. The horizontal limit is the same as before, 150px, but the display size is about half that (or less).

Should be fixed now.  Another setting that somehow partially got reset and needed to be kicked to work again correctly. lol.

+1 for the new "alerts" feature. It's really handy to know when your posts have been quoted, and fun to see when you've been "liked". And +1 for the like feature itself? To my knowledge it's been serving its intended purpose without being abused or creating drama, so I'd call that a success.

LIKES - You can now like individual posts if you want to.  This will allow people to show their support for something, and not have to make an 'I agree' type of post if they don't want to.

@ Mentions - You are now able to directly mention another user in a post and they'll get a notification about it.  Please don't abuse this.
@rickmastfan67 is reactions feasible via SMF?

Don't think so.

It is with an addon, though I've never used this so I don't know how well it works. https://custom.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=4264

It will be possible by default in SMF 3.0 though (currently in the early stages of development).

Given that the same user that asked about post reactions also started a thread about them, which received a near-universal negative reception from the community*, we are not planning to take steps to implement them. Maybe we'll revisit the idea when SMF 3 comes out, in the event that community opinion has changed by then (although I wouldn't hold your breath).

*I'm not sure why he decided to ask in this thread when the other thread indicated that people don't like the idea. Forum shopping perhaps?

I must say, I am liking how the "like" button changes the dynamic in discussions where there are a couple of loud people and a silent majority not posting (or posting less often).

I don't seem to have a like button. Perhaps it's tied to my report privileges being snatched?

Looks like custom usergroups defaulted to "disallow" for any new permissions added during the upgrade. I have adjusted the permissions so that the like button should be available for everyone.

One minor annoyance with the new features is the default setting to remain logged in for 1 hour when logging in. If I forget to manually change it to 1 week (which is my preference), I'll have to re-login after an hour.

I would definitely prefer if the default setting was 1 day or at least some time period longer than an hour. Other users may find a 6- or 12-hour option useful as well, though I would still choose one of the longer time periods myself regardless of what the default is.

I agree.  The old default was to remain logged in forever, or at least that was the default for me.  More than once I've been interrupted while typing a post and then it's lost because the forum had already logged me out when I clicked the POST button.  (Yeah, yeah, some would say that's a feature, nyuk nyuk.)

I was thrown by it at first, but I've come to like it.  When I'm doing my lunch break forum check, it just signs in for an hour, and then if I have a break where I'm bored, I can do a quick sweep to see if there's something new without affecting my read/unread status for topics.  In the past I would close down an incognito window upon the conclusion of my lunch check, but that's no longer needed.  It's actually come to be an annoyance on the rare occasions I sign into the TM forum on that break (read: when activity is so low here that I end up with extra time to fill), having to change it from that site's "forever" default.

My desktop and laptop are both signed in forever.  Not hard to change to that for the one time I actually have to do it.

I honestly don't think there's any way to change that.  That's hard coded in the forum software as far as I can tell.
