A batch of Iowa END markers from a trip taken yesterday. (Before the supposed "snowpocalypse" that never really came, at least not for the metro!) Main feature was a clinch of IA-44, and then on the way back, I clinched IA-83 and followed White Pole Road and US-6 back to Des Moines.

South end of IA-4 in Panora.

North end of IA-173 in Kimballton.

The west end of IA-44 at US-30, northeast of Logan. The east end of IA-44 in Grimes hasn't had an END marker posted for over a decade, according to the Iowa Highway Ends site.

Current south end of IA-191 at I-680...

...and the east end of I-680 about half a mile from the IA-191 interchange.

I really need to get a photo of this one: an end sign for WA 124 in the middle of a roundabout (in a dogbone interchange)

It's always refreshing/exciting to see California route spades that look fresh and in mint condition.  I feel like those are really hard to come by, compared to the state route markers in other states.

A lot of the really old ones have been replaced in the past decade with new fully vinyl spades on stand alone sign posts.  The older shields had a reflective green paint base with a vinyl number on top of it.  The vinyl part of those old shields burnt out way before the paint did and gave a haggard yellowed out look over time.  Much of the button-copy BGSs are still around probably due to the expense of replacing them.

Some more from Utah:

SR-266 in Taylorsville

SR-287 in Bluffdale

I posted the BEGIN sign in the other thread, here's the END sign for going north. END Hennepin CR-81 at the I-94/MN-101 interchange in Rogers.

Speaking of county road END signs, here's a couple more. Anoka CR-23, where it ends and turns into MN-97.

And Anoka CR-54, which ends at about the same place.

For the non-Minnesotans, Hennepin (outside of Minneapolis proper), Anoka, Washington, and Isanti tend to be very good about end shields. Other counties beyond that are much more inconsistent, with most having no end shields. That's a photo project I'd like to take on down the line.

Isanti County doesn't do END signs, at least as well as I can remember. Everything else about their county route signage is top tier, though. The other counties I can't really speak to.

Edit: And speaking of photo projects, I had an idea to go home for a week or two in the summer and document the ends (and other interesting bits) of Isanti County's county roads. Would also be fun to see some people I haven't seen in years. :)

Jumping in late here, but another related project I've pondered is delineating which Minnesota counties use the pentagon versus the white square versus a mix (and what type of mix, since I've seen at least two different types of mixes).

That sounds like a good way to employ this mapping site for shading in the counties https://mapchart.net/usa-counties.html

Normally "Ends" signs appear several hundred feet before the actual end, placed on signs with the intersecting route.  Here is an example of an end sign (SR 512) that appears after the Milepost 0 sign. https://goo.gl/maps/GiaLw4mkyan

US 89

Finally snagged a photo of this one:

That endpoint is new since 2012, and it's sort of stupid, since SR 73 is discontinuous and resumes about three miles west of here. The intervening section was turned back to local maintenance when the parallel SR 145 was built.

Something about the current situation needs to change, whether that's renumbering this eastern 73 stub or turning it back to the city all the way to US 89.
