Tpke signage.

Tip-key. That's how I read that. Good find, though. I like the square corners. That's a NJ Turnpike thing, right?

I read it as "Topeke" (though whatever that could possibly be I don't think it exists)  :-D

But anyways, yeah. Thanks for sharing that photo. What's the date of the photo, if you know?
Now alternating between different highway shields for my avatar - my previous highway shield avatar for the last few years was US 76.

I took that in September. The sun wasn't my friend there but it could be worse.
I only take pics of good looking signs. Long live non-reflective button copy!

Here's a cool old US-40 shield, in the vicinity of the Hill sign I wrote about earlier.

Old US 40 Shield by Elliott Plack, on Flickr

Can anyone identify that traffic signal type? The larger light is a green arrow, pointing left.

freebrickproductions

I'd need a backshot of the signal to identify who made it, but the signal type is an 8-8-12.
It's all fun & games until someone summons Cthulhu and brings about the end of the world.

I also collect traffic lights, road signs, fans, and railroad crossing equipment.

Replaced earlier this year with black and white shields and the larger 24" (I think) SPUR banner UNDER the state shield  :banghead:

It's cool to see the green spur signs still around. They're unique because some of them are smaller than the normal directional banners. The only other one I've seen like that is LA Spur 3025 (Bertrand Dr.) at the junction with US 167 (Johnston St.) in Lafayette

Didn't that used to be the normal size of directional banners up until about 30-35 years ago?

Gotta love the FHWA font, button copy and 180o turn arrow on this sign on I-10 in Arizona!  :sombrero:

Gone now. The entire interchange was torn down and replaced with a new one further east.

Found this old Speed Limit sign in Somerville today, with those older "custom" FHWA numbers.

Yes, it's Bing Maps, because GMSV hates Somerville and doesn't have coverage for this particular section of S Bridge St, and the coverage in most of Somerville is spotty anyway.

Let me know if that link actually works to view the sign in Bing's street view because I'm not sure if it's like Google or not...

Works for me (once the vertical divider is finished jumping around).

I had to switch to IE for it to work. Chrome wasn't having it.

Neither does it work in Pale Moon (Firefox derivative).

EDIT: Seems like it requires Microsoft Silverlight to be installed.  :-|

I'm going to create a town called Road Street and the main street is going to be called Avenue Boulevard.

The northbound version (without shitty blotches of blurriness):

Does anyone know if those signs are still up? They look like they have to be at least 40 years old, if not older!

Photographed from doofy103 just this past October:

US-1 NB, Bensalem, PA. Note the 1/8 mile. All text, non-reflective button copy! The "RACETRACK" Sign was added on later but looks worse. Hmpf! by mergingtraffic, on Flickr
