Here's one I took in CT:

I only take pics of good looking signs. Long live non-reflective button copy!

Is the bottom 12" slice newer than the rest of the sign?
Wait, it's all Ohio? Always has been.

Just because it's olden doesn't make it golden.

I accept and respect your identity as long as it's not dumb shit like "identifying as a vaccinated attack helicopter".

Yes, that's what I like about it.  It was added on some years later, after they went reflective button copy.

Harder to tell by day (sign is CT 8 NB, by the way):

This thread shouldn't go more than ten days without a new photo:

Probably not "best" by any objective criteria, but certainly classic.  Signs at Memorial Dr (former US 33) / Broad St (former OH 793) interchange:

OH 793 was decommissioned just before the Lancaster Bypass opened (taking US 33 out of this interchange).
Wait, it's all Ohio? Always has been.

This one on the Lake Ontario State Parkway has since been replaced:

digging the '61 spec US-4.  I believe that is the only surviving one - the 5/105 assembly with square 105 shield is, IIRC, gone.

also good to know that the '48 spec oversize route 14 shield survives.  I think that is the only one in the state of that briefly used variant.

Here's some oldies-but-goodies that still exist in Wakulla County, Florida; ages ago I sent these in to Alps' Roads so if they look sorta familiar, that's why.

This is at the western end of County Road 374 where it intersects Forest Road 356. This sign still exists, surprisingly; it is also the only sign, at all, that marks CR-374.

And now for an even better one, at the southern terminus of County Road 367 in Shell Point, FL...

...that didn't even get it's secondary-state-road "S" patched to a "C"! This one was actually moved a couple of years ago as part of a road alignment when they 'improved' the beachfront park; instead of being a reassurance/"Begin" sign for North 367, it's now on the opposite side of the road for southbound traffic as if it were an "End" sign.
Rule 37. There is no 'overkill'. There is only 'open fire' and 'I need to reload'.

Yes, that is a TEMP banner.

^^ Wow.  I haven't seen a "TEMP" banner since Michigan built the last parts of I-69 near Lansing in 1992.  Wish I could have gotten photographs then.

with regard to the "city of speed traps" - I remember a few years back there was a sign advertising Trinidad Colorado several dozen miles north on I-25 -probably around Walsenburg.  the official text was something to the effect of "see historic Trinidad, Santa Fe Trail, yade yada" - but someone had added "I-25: 35mph speed trap".

Wow, makes me wonder if there are any other "TEMP" relics still in the field.  Idk much about Washington roads, when does this sign date to?

I would have thought much earlier, but the westernmost mile or two of I-90 only dates to 1992.  Prior to that, you had to take Dearborn and a no longer existant avenue between I-5 and Rainier.

Wasn't the old street connection between I-5 and I-90 signed as Temp I-90?  If it was after 1992, the sign would have been to mainline I-90, yes?

agentsteel53

there was a "TO TEMP 15-E" sign in Perris, CA until about three or four years ago.  not bad for outlasting the route number by 25 years.

When you travel through Waldo, FL there are billboards for several miles, advertising the world famous speed trap on US 301.

Sorry, I didn't directly answer the question asked. But yes, I-90 dates to 1992, thus the sign must be from before that. But that may have been obvious from the poor condition of the sign. ;-)

Creative way to sign the I-25 Business Spur (that's correct, it ends in town) serving the little town of Aguilar, Colorado. That's CDOT's new standard blade street sign.
