I have not been able to locate a good road map of Puerto Rico online and decided to try creating one in ArcGIS Pro as a side project.

I first found that there is a not a lot of available GIS data for the island online. The best I could find was an extraction of OpenStreetMap, which seems pretty thorough with the routes, but with inconsistencies and no route numbers. Looking at ArcGIS Online, there are a couple of other datasets, but they are not as accurate.

The next difficulty encountered was both determining the route numbers and how routes vary in shield styles. Most of the limited access Primary Routes seem straight forward, but the Trunk and Secondary Routes are not as consistent. Have used GMSV here and there to verify shields, but also have noticed that there are a lot of older overheads, some showing Primary Routes with circles and others such as PR 17 with black/white instead of blue/white.

Here is what I created so far:

I have to edit the feature classes to include the route numbers, which has proven to be time consuming so far. It might go faster if I had a good source to get the route numbers right. Have not decided on what the final map style will be either such as what line styles to use.

Maybe reach out to whomever did the PR Travel Mapping entries?

I did some of the peer review of Puerto Rico, but it was mostly based off of a spreadsheet that mapcat emailed me.

I think NE2 linked the latest version of it on the Travel Mapping forum (https://forum.travelmapping.net/index.php?topic=5615.msg31630#msg31630).

Thanks Mark! This should be a big help.

I'm traveling to Puerto Rico in a little over a week and want better knowledge of the road network there.

Yeah, anything you can do to help get usapr closer to 100% correct would be a big help.
