Pretty much every round-edged guide sign in Delaware is doomed for carbon copying. My next Interstate 95 Delaware update will show that even signs posted in 2004-05 are subject for replacement.

I think the reason why it moved 1/4 mile closer is because the exit ramp was moved back a tad when the interchange was reconstructed. (IMO, I don't think the ramp was moved 1/4 mile back, but ODOT must have thought so)

Yeah, I figured that's why the distance changed, but I don't think it was a whole 1/4 mile. Probably more like 1/8 but they figured it would be a bad idea to put "7/8 mile"... perhaps they should have just moved the 1 mile sign back to the SH-9 overpass; that seems like the appropriate distance!

I hate those new signs at that interchange...they're so much uglier compared to the old ones. Looks like ODOT has had some problems with them too! (http://www.denexa.com/roadgeek/road-photos/main.php?cmd=imageview&var1=ok%2Fmcclain%2F035i_106_nb_3p.jpg)

According to the MUTCD, distances on guide signs are supposed to be shown in 1/4-mile increments (though there are numerous exceptions around the country, I would imagine).  Rule of thumb is to use the nearest 1/4 mile lower than the actual distance.

1980's-era LA 22 sign replaced with a new "Monochrome" shield sometime within the last few months. There's many more examples of this around my area alone.

I see the 190 also got the axe.  Two attractive shields removed in favor of one ugly one (the misshapen US 190) and one I'm kinda indifferent towards.

this lovely 1938 guide sign survived until 2007.  There are two more like it left in the state of California that I know of, and I am not saying where they are!

There are at least two 1/8 mile signs in the Grand Rapids area.

Here is one of those "exceptions"...

This is a relatively new sign (complete with exit numbers and reflective sheeting) but still features a "1/8 MILE" distance which was carried over from the old sign.

That sign will be RIP very soon when CA-4 is re-routed onto the bypass and when that happens hopefully that sign will be replaced with something that looks like this...

In regards to the photo, interesting use of Series F Caps on the Stockton/Rio Vista sign, and some rather nifty Series C in the shields! I bet portions of the signs would just be patched over once CA-4 gets rerouted onto the bypass.

I saw this old Maximum Safe Speed assembly several times over the years when I would drive to Richmond, but I finally got a picture of it back in May. When I drove by it a few weeks ago, it had been replaced with a modern assembly. The gore sign is alive and kicking.

It's not a signal, but here is a 2008 photo of mine of the old VA 28/Frying Pan Road intersection in Herndon, VA before it was turned into a trumpet interchange:

Even though the new interchange is nice and was needed, I miss these old signals.

This sign had an extremely short lifespan. It existed for about 2 weeks in August, and was destroyed when someone crashed into it. It just lay there for a few days in the ditch before someone finally took the remains away. The blue exit tab was what originally caught my attention.
