Replaced by this monstrosity! Note that the "9" is off center, and the exit ramp is magically 1/4 mi closer!

Pretty much every round-edged guide sign in Delaware is doomed for carbon copying. My next Interstate 95 Delaware update will show that even signs posted in 2004-05 are subject for replacement.

I think the reason why it moved 1/4 mile closer is because the exit ramp was moved back a tad when the interchange was reconstructed. (IMO, I don't think the ramp was moved 1/4 mile back, but ODOT must have thought so)

Scott5114

Yeah, I figured that's why the distance changed, but I don't think it was a whole 1/4 mile. Probably more like 1/8 but they figured it would be a bad idea to put "7/8 mile"... perhaps they should have just moved the 1 mile sign back to the SH-9 overpass; that seems like the appropriate distance!

I hate those new signs at that interchange...they're so much uglier compared to the old ones. Looks like ODOT has had some problems with them too!

Long gone, carbon copied in 1998, replaced again in 2006 (with a right-hand exit tab)

According to the MUTCD, distances on guide signs are supposed to be shown in 1/4-mile increments (though there are numerous exceptions around the country, I would imagine).  Rule of thumb is to use the nearest 1/4 mile lower than the actual distance.

1980's-era LA 22 sign replaced with a new "Monochrome" shield sometime within the last few months. There's many more examples of this around my area alone.

I see the 190 also got the axe.  Two attractive shields removed in favor of one ugly one (the misshapen US 190) and one I'm kinda indifferent towards.

this lovely 1938 guide sign survived until 2007.  There are two more like it left in the state of California that I know of, and I am not saying where they are!

There are at least two 1/8 mile signs in the Grand Rapids area.

This thread is now about signs that bip.

Signs "bip" only in the mind of one very disturbed individual.

I may be disturbed, but 'very disturbed' is pushing it. Anyway, here's a sign that byps:

Here is one of those "exceptions"...

This is a relatively new sign (complete with exit numbers and reflective sheeting) but still features a "1/8 MILE" distance which was carried over from the old sign.

Since signs bip in my mind, you must be mistaken.

That sign will be RIP very soon when CA-4 is re-routed onto the bypass and when that happens hopefully that sign will be replaced with something that looks like this...

In regards to the photo, interesting use of Series F Caps on the Stockton/Rio Vista sign, and some rather nifty Series C in the shields! I bet portions of the signs would just be patched over once CA-4 gets rerouted onto the bypass.
