Title: Quad State II: Road Meet Boogaloo
Post by: vdeane on June 04, 2025, 08:21:49 PM
Any further news on Quad State II?  There's a chance I might be able to go to this one after all.

Quote from: Laura on February 13, 2025, 07:39:49 PMOkay I'm making it official - Saturday, July 26th is Quad State II: Electric Boogaloo!

Laura, is there a page here or at Facebook for this meet?  I've booked flights, a hotel room, and a rental car for this one.

Yes good question, I am 100% in and if Steph is off work that day she will be along too, again easy day trip for us.

I'm definitely in and my wife is a nearly certain.  Hope Laura's okay.

The strong interest here is making me wonder if I should just book my hotel and declare the time off even without further confirmation.  I suppose if the worst case scenario happens, we could just get together and do an ad-hoc meet or I could do an extra day of clinches or find something else to do.

Hi everyone... I was going to postpone it because of my surgery recovery but now I'm seeing people booked flights and rooms and I'm thinking that an alternative person should instead host it. I'll talk it over with Mike and let you all know ASAP. He might be able to step in, or I will pass it off to someone else.

Hope you feel better soon Laura.  Have you worked with roadwaywiz on this at all?

Anyway I can probably look at sites if necessary, but I am unsure about taking over full hosting duties.  My parents took my sister and I to Charles Town as young kids so they probably know more about restaurants in the area (at least if they have existed since the 1990s) than I would.

Whatever works best for you works for me.  I haven't booked yet and I'm already taking a decent amount of time off this year, so it's not a problem for me if this ends up being a meet for another time.  That said, if this does end up happening as currently scheduled, I wouldn't mind booking this week, next week at the latest, especially since this is already closer than I usually cut it.

...especially if stops for the tour have already been considered.  Could be easy to choose a place to meet up for lunch.

It's not hard to figure out what the Williamsport, Wilson, and Antietam stops were supposed to be.  Not sure what we were supposed to do at Falling Waters, however.  Not sure what to add PA, except maybe a restroom stop at the welcome center (Williamsport/Wilson before and Antietam/drive through VA/WV after?).  Other than that it's finding a restaurant.

There's also a bridge in Sharpsburg.

I am sure Laura will provide us with an itinerary prior to the meet if she cannot arrange to be there.

Hi everyone, I'm going to attempt to host this meet but will have a better idea after visiting the area this weekend and can tighten the itinerary.

If my husband is unable to drive me on the meet day itself due to work, I've received offers from multiple people to drive, which is awesome. If I am not well enough, I will pass along hosting duties to someone else (I've had offers there as well!) This weekend will give me a better gauge if I can handle being in a car for a good chunk of the day. If I feel unable then I will pass on the itinerary to them.

I haven't booked anything yet.  We bought a new car very recently, so that's not a worry anymore, but we're still struggling.  I also might be double- or even triple-booked that day (gah!).  If you need someone to drive you, add my name to the pile of offers you've got for that and feel free to text me -- but as I said, I'm not sure I'll be able to go.  If I weren't terrified of hosting a meet, I'd even offer that.

I've booked my hotel.  Now it's just a matter of picking a route.  Originally I was doing to dip down to clinch the MD and DC portion of US 29, but that really needs an extra day to do.  Then I was thinking about 322 and 422 in PA, but whatever day gets stuck with filling in clinch gaps on US 340 from the meet tour will end up long, so it looks like I might need to truncate things (especially if I end up with any other clinch gaps to fill).

322 and 422? You would be going past my neighborhood :-) As for me this is a day drive for me so won't have to book anything, still 100% in and willing to help Laura, not sure on Steph's schedule for that weekend yet

Just curious if the tour will be put together soon - I'm hoping to finalize my route to/from the meet this weekend and do the prep work (write down directions, scout out in street view, etc.).

Hi everyone, I'm hanging in there!

Here is the link to the Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/share/1Vu4h9QBSv/?mibextid=wwXIfr

I plan to finalize the itinerary ASAP, but here's a sneak peak:

Lunch in Hagerstown, MD at Foster's on the Point Restaurant at 11 am, then a drive through look at the Dual Highway Complete Streets Quick Build project that Laura worked on in 2024!

PA: Hays Stone Arch Bridge and Witherspoon Covered Bridge

MD: Wilson Bridge (Old National Pike),
Williamsport - Salisbury Street Bridge and Railroad Lift Bridge. Also an Old Route Shield! Antietam National Battlefield (including Burnside Bridge), Antietam Ironworks Bridge

VA: US 340

WV: Drive through Harpers Ferry (slope remediation project, historic town) and Shepherdstown
