The poll lists general categories.  Please post your specific preferences in a post here.  (i.e. Coke vs Pepsi vs Dr. Pepper)

I drink more Pepsi than I should, because we have it at work.  Generally I'm pretty agnostic between Coke and Pepsi - I used to prefer Coke but recently I find myself preferring Pepsi.  In either case, the version with sugar, as opposed to high fructose corn syrup, tastes a lot better.

I drink more plain old tap water than every other beverage combined, though.

Toilet water? Really?  :-D

I don't drink soda at all, hate coffee, am not fond of tea when I found out it wasn't made from powder (about 10 or so) and I don't drink bottled water when I can get it cheaper out of the faucet.

I used to drink a lot of unsweet tea but after I tasted McDonald's sweet tea I've been addicted to sweet tea in general.  I also drink a lot of Pepsi but I don't drink that very often anymore because all the vending machines I've seen here at Virginia Tech are for Coke products.

While I've really cut down in my general soda consumption over the years, if I'm at a restaurant and not drinking beer, I usually go for the Root Beer.  Though if I have a chance to get a good Cream Soda I usually can't turn that down.  Two other honorable mentions are Orange Soda and Ginger Ale.

Pepsi is the best....I keep my fridge loaded with Pepsi at all times.  That's the beverage I consume when I am out.

Other ones I like are 7-UP, Dr. Pepper, Hi-C fruit punch, and Mountain Dew

I picked coffee, tea, and water.  However, I could have picked fruit juice as a fourth because I always drink orange juice after coffee or black tea to get rid of the halitosis both of those drinks cause.  (I learned this in Spain, where the standard breakfast at a bar in Madrid is churros, coffee, and freshly-squeezed orange juice.  OJ from concentrate is not as powerful a taste experience, but it is equally effective at killing breath odor.)  I have just one cup of coffee a day, usually fixed right after I wake up, and I try not to drink black tea after noon.  If I want something hot to drink later in the day, usually I choose mint tea.  I am also a fan of apple tea (a big thing in Turkey), but have not drunk it in years since the main ingredient--dried apple crumbs--is not that easy to find in the West.

I don't particularly care for soft drinks and tend to get them only when I am driving or when I have to get my money's worth out of a fast-food "value meal" combination.  Dr. Pepper is my poison of choice when I am not driving, but when I am, I tend to go for Sprite or Mountain Dew because they are less likely to stain seats if spilled.

On a volume basis, tap water wins by far.  I take seriously the business of remaining hydrated.

You can't beat tap water. I keep a gallon jug of it in the fridge at all times. Usually drink 1/4 of it a day these days, though in the summer, I'd often drink the whole thing in one day.

My favourite is pineapple juice, followed closely by grapefruit juice. When I rent a car abroad I tend to find a convenience store and buy some bottled water.

I'm, sadly, way too addicted to Mountain Mtn Dew for my own good. On a hot summer's day, though, there is nothing better than ice cold water (though I drink a lot more bottled water than tap water, mostly because the tap water here is disgusting)...

I drink a lot of milk, too...why is that not on the list?

I picked tap water, and soda since I didn't see a "pop" choice listed :D.

I cut back my soft drink intake about two years ago and cut out HFCS because I got to the point where I couldn't stand the syrupy taste anymore.  So when I buy pop now, I look for Jones Soda (http://www.jonessoda.com/) products or the new Sierra Mist Free.

I can probably narrow it down to two or three who would possibly vote toilet water, but it would be rude to call them out by name.

As far as non-alcohol goes, I'm either a coffee or cola (prefer Pepsi) person when I go out, but I've found that I've been drinking more water here at the office. I'll usually purchase bottled water for a co-worker and me, but I'll usually refill a bottle with tap water a few times so I can stretch each case I get.

Soda and lemonade are my favorites. I am a big fan of Coke (prefer it a lot over Pepsi) and Dr. Pepper. As for the worst drink I've ever had, it probably has to be the Moxie soda made in Maine  :ded:.

Two things...

Would iced tea be classified as tea or something else?
Soda is also called pop in Western New York State, particularly around Rochester and Buffalo.

Pop for me thank you!  :-D Coca Cola the last 10 yrs, Pepsi b4 then. Sweet Tea in a restaurant.
Winn Dixie Chex Vanilla Coke if I have my druthers :D. Occasional Root Beer, Vernors or Country Time lemonade or Kool Aid. My water source is a well at home....ewwwww!!!! I've never liked tap or bottled water, dunno Y?  :hmmm:
BTW, until a few years ago I referred to pop as "coke" or "soda" whatever the brand. After spending a few weeks with relatives in the Detroit area, I became fond of the pop label, I just like the way it sounds..."you wanna pop?" "may I have a pop please", "I gotta getta pop", "where's your pop please" POP, POP, POP. POP, POP, I luvs me some pop!!  :spin: :spin:

I refer to it neither as "soda", nor "pop", nor as that strangely New England word choice of "tonic".  I tend to narrow it down by brand.

Being a third-shifter, having a caffeinated drink of choice is imperative. I do not like coffee or tea, so Mountain Dew is what I tend to drink most, which is reinforced by there being a dispenser of it in both the break room and every sector of my workplace (except Delta, oddly). I rarely drink plain water as it is too bland for my taste.

Added an iced tea option because tea is not tea.  Iced tea would include sweet tea.

The soda I drink are ones that are made with real Sugar (like the Dr. Pepper Heritage & Mountain Dew Throwback - just picked up 2 12-packs of Dew Throwback today).  I also like the new Sierra Mist Natural that is made with Sugar as well.  I also like Dr. Pepper (the one with HFS), but the Sugar version tastes MUCH better.  However, I do also really like the Dr. Pepper Cherry, man that stuff is good!

Anyways, I at least stocked up on the Sugar Dew and Dr while it was in stores.  Have 8 Dr. Pepper Heritage and 4 Mountain Dew Throwback (+ 1 2-litter that I picked up in Bristol, VA) available to me.  So, I'm set for at least 2-3 months with my sugar fix. :)  That and occasionally I'll pick up a Sierra Mist 2-litter to mix it up.  :)

I used to be a loyal Pepsi drinker, but lately I've been drinking almost exclusively Coke and Diet Coke. Pepsi is too sweet for me now, and I like Diet Coke's lack of HFCS and the fact that I can drink it without racking up the useless calories.

Same goes with Diet Mountain Dew- I drink that religiously, especially on road trips. Diet drinks taste like crap at first,  but once you're used to them the regulars start to taste bad. A regular Coke is still better, but I can barely stand regular Mountain Dew now.

After a hard day outside, however, I love to sit down with a Sprite. To me there is no more refreshing drink than a Sprite (not a 7UP, not a Sierra Mist, not whatever generic lemon lime drink, not a diet Sprite, just regular Sprite).

A delicious glass of tap water is also awesome unless you're too far south and you get the (presumably) desal water that's in Phoenix and South Texas- that stuff is just nasty. I even like Chicago water, which is pretty bad- although the well water at my parents house in Idaho is probably my favorite- well water is almost always the most delicious.

I can barely eat pasta without milk- milk is still my non-alcoholic dinner beverage of choice, and I can't function in the morning without having a glass of Orange Juice.

I don't drink a ton of coffee, but when I do I prefer the cheap straight stuff. No lattes or mochas for me, and iced coffee makes me nauseous.

I love the sweet tea at McAlister's- I've been known to buy that by the gallon. I haven't had McDonalds's yet, but I bet that's not bad either.

I guess I like all drinks. Depending on the mood I'm in and what I've done that day, pretty much everything sounds like the best possible drink at some point or another.  Tomato juice is nasty, but beyond that I'll drink just about anything.

Cheerwine is a current favorite. I buy a ton of diet cases while in NC. Its available in NJ now, but only in glass bottles for $1.50 a piece. One perk is that the glass bottles are real sugar vs. HFCS. Oddly enough I haven't actually seen glass bottle Cheerwine for sale in NC itself, only other states.

Mostly Coke Zero and Pepsi Max. I don't as a rule like diet sodas, but Coke Zero doesn't taste diet, and Pepsi Max tastes identical to Coke Zero but has significantly more caffeine. Also, I'll usually keep some Diet A&W around if I don't want caffeine. It also doesn't taste like a diet soda.

I used to drink regular soda, but it just became too many empty calories. I will splurge on an imported Mexican (real sugar) Coke or Pepsi whenever I'm at a hispanic grocery though.

I am a Diet Coke drinker, although I will occasionally opt for a Diet Dr Pepper if it is an option.

Being from Kentucky, I am a fan of  Ale-8-One (http://ale8one.com) both regular and diet versions. And I am also quite fond of Vernor's, which is a bit more spicy than Ale-8.

(OK, how do you get the hyperlinks to show up as text and not the url itself, like Jeff did for his Jones Soda link?)

Diet and 'Zero' drinks make me feel ill due to the chemicals they put in them to sweeten them. Give me sugar, or even corn syrup, over them any time.

When in the States, I tend to drink Mountain Dew or Root Beer, mostly as I can't get them here easily/cheaply and I like them.

I tend to drink cola for a non-hot drink, and drink about a mug of coffee, and one of tea a day. I normally have an orange juice in the morning, and often drink squash.

It's not a problem like sensitive teeth, but I feel that chilled drinks taste a lot worse than room temperature drinks, so I take water out of the tap (which is a bit colder than room temperature), rather than the fridge, and store my cola outside the fridge.

I do not like Mountain Dew, and Pepsi Throwback needs to be available throughout the summer instead of the two-three weeks it seemed to be available.  One of the Giant Eagles near me carries Coke from Mexico in their international foods aisle, so I get that from time-to-time when I want a cola without HFCS.

I've seen Pepsi Throwback available throughout the year since it's been introduced, but it's been sporadic and varies from store to store.

I don't know if the local Pepsi bottlers are making it multiple times a year or if the supermarkets just found a bunch of cases in some corner of one of their warehouses.

That's interesting- I always thought of "pop" as a western Great Lakes/northern Plains sort of thing- namely Minnesota/Wisconsin (I'd have spotted the "pop" capitol of the world somewhere around Madison) , but also Illinois, Iowa, and the eastern Dakotas- basically any area with a large Scandinavian heritage. Interestingly, I remember it as being used most of the time in southern Ohio and even Columbus to an extent, but in Dayton the usage was almost entirely "soda"- that could be a years old misconception though.

That- if I recall the methodology of that map I suspect it's pretty accurate in densely populated areas and not so much in rural areas. Good luck finding many people in Idaho or Wyoming (or Washington for that matter- really surprised to see the Puget Sound area as blue) who call it pop! They are there, but it's rare.

Strangely, by that map I have only lived in counties where at least 50% of the population calls it "pop" and I've never once referred to it as that- same with both of my parents except my Dad who spent two years in Massachusetts as a boy.

No, it's not one of the Market District's.  It's a normal Giant Eagle, but one that is open 24/7.  I just sent you a PM with it's location. ;)

It seems the reason that they still have it is because people don't go to this store that offen.  A new Market District was opened a few miles North of it that took away most of it's traffic.

I lived in Kansas City, and never got used to "soda."  I now live in Tulsa, and I'm still not used to "pop."  To me soda is baking soda and pop is a genre of music.  I call it "coke."

Anyone who has met me can verify that I always have a Coke in my hand.  Coke is easily my favorite drink.  I drink about 10 cans a day, which is way too much.

To me Coke is simply the dark drink also called cola (brand regardless), soda is a word that just doesn't get used and pop is the noise made by popcorn when it's cooking.

To me, the generic term for cold drinks with carbon dioxide bubbles in it is "fizzy drink" (or "carbonated soft drink" if you want to be like the description on cans of coke). Soft drink for generic non-alcoholic cold drinks. You list them by what they are if you want something specific (eg. we have Coke, Lemonade or Fanta). I get "pop", and "soda" - they don't make my spine shudder - and I can just about tolerate "tonic" without going apoplectic (though if you ask me for a tonic, you'll either get a health drink or tonic water), but using the term "coke" for anything but cola just makes me want to rinse your mouth out with soap.

Around here it's "pop."

And I thought the Pepsi throwback was just a temporary limited edition thing.

One of the local stores in my small burg had the Mexico Coke, but I didn't understand why anyone would pay outrageous prices for something in glass bottles with Spanish language printed on them.

Well, I personally like both of them (if Dr. Pepper is an option @ a restaurant, that's what I'll get 99.9% of the time when I'm in the mood for soda instead of water).  But if I had a choice between the HFCS or Sugar version, I'd take the Sugar version 100% of the time.

Chocolate milk made with non-skim milk and lemonade are probably a small cut above the others though.

in both cases, it might be that the glass-bottle coke has real sugar, while the plastic is high fructose corn syrup.  I much prefer the sugar coke, which - coincidentally - comes in glass bottles.

I formerly thought that Diet Dr. Pepper was the best (or rather, least bad) diet drink, but then I (accidentally since I didn't see the "Zero" on the label when I bought it) tried this:
(https://www.aaroads.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg257.imageshack.us%2Fimg257%2F3629%2Fguaranaantarcticazerolo.gif&hash=0c5b66985af33d7e92a0b3b39c06d3307bd33dee)
And now Diet Dr. Pepper is a distant second place. Unfortunately, Guarana as far as I know is not sold in the U.S.

It looks like the Lehigh Valley bottler switched to sucrose, and I'd bet that being in Jersey you're probably either in their jurisdiction or close enough to it that you get their bottles from time to time

http://www.lehighvalleycoke.com/default.asp

...a little bit more research- the Lehigh Valley Coke bottler is ABARTA East, which serves Warren County, which doesn't look like it's too far from where you are

http://www.abarta.com/divisions/beverage_group/coke_east.htm

but there is a bottler in Parsippany, so who knows

The only reason sugar is so expensive in this country is a crazy tariff on imported sugar:

HFCS in soft drinks is as much to do with the masses corn subsidies making a surplus of cheap corn, if not more, than is to do with the high cost of sugar.

At work I drink mostly water simply because I can get it for free (filtered tap from the break room). Elsewhere... I will confess to being a diet soda addict (no real preference on Pepsi vs Coke). Although, I have at times been known to order regular soda when in public for the sake of avoiding conspicuity.

The real killer, though, is my breakfast beverage choice: I'm nearly 23 years old and I drink chocolate milk.
