Where I grew up in Massachusetts, grates are common on bridges, because snow can fall through the openings, or be pushed through by tires. We probably had more snow than you do in OK.

I found an interesting dark electronic sign in Claremore, OK today here...

Seems like it should light up whenever a train is crossing the parallel tracks, similar to the Houston example I posted earlier in the thread. But this one looks like it has been here a lot longer than that Houston one (at least since 2008, according to GSV).

Some signs from today's day trip:

The letter A that way?

That's a really big sign for not that much information.

Ewwww.

Would Oklahoma DOT put up the funds and do the work to run I49 on their side of the border or is I49 from Ft Smith to Texarkana exclusively an Arkansas thing?

My wife's friend from college got her a box seat ticket at the Fresno State football game tonight.  It looks nice from the photos, especially since she is getting free food.  I'd like to have gone but I'm okay sitting down drinking the last couple beers and watching my game on TV.

And no, nothing has ever graced the lonesome right side of this sign.
This sign has since been replaced.

Won't you think of the dollars, though? If you answer something so callously and with such finality as "Never, don't ask me again", it makes the dollars sad. What if you really do mean never?

Won't you think of the dollars, in their time of need? Their time of needing more dollars?
Sometimes it's not even the dollars, it's "the team that came up with this feature has a KPI of getting X% of users to actually use it, and if they don't use the feature because it sucks, the team's manager will have a hissy fit about it".

I suspect that's happening with every app that has an AI feature for some reason now.

Why the hell would I need an AI to read a newspaper? Isn't the newspaper itself supposed to be summarizing what happened? If I needed a summary of the summary, isn't that what the headline and lede are for?

That one usually is the dollars, but in the even dumber way of "these investors with lots of money think AI is the future, so if we stuff our product full of AI they'll give us some of their money". Tech investors love hyping up technologies that they're momentarily obsessed with (see also anything related to the blockchain).

I'm rather pleased that NFTs seem to have died an ignominious death.
