General Highway Talk / US routes that don't fit the n...
Last post by hbelkins - September 02, 2025, 05:59:41 PM
Has anyone ever tried to compile a list of even-numbered US routes that are signed north-south, or odd-numbered routes that are signed east-west?

Here's my attempt:

US 1 -- signed E-W in Connecticut
US 4 -- signed N-S in New York
US 24 -- signed N-S in Michigan
US 33 -- signed E-W in Ohio, West Virginia, and Virginia
US 35 -- signed E-W in Ohio
US 42 -- signed N-S in Ohio
US 52 -- signed N-S in several states
US 62 -- signed N-S in New York
US 68 -- signed N-S in Ohio
US 220 -- signed N-S for its entire length
US 250 -- signed N-S in West Virginia
US 258 -- signed N-S for its entire length
US 522 -- signed N-S for its entire length

What have I overlooked?

The bypass could have run a little further south, bypassing the neighborhood around Lake Monocnoc. The existing US 61/82/278 interchange would likely have had to been removed and moved southward. The bypass could have then reconnected with existing 82/278 between Frazier Rd. and Doolittle Rd./Taylor Rd. In the end, they probably ended it where they did because it took so long to complete the existing Greenville bypass, and it would have probably cost too much to extend it further.

Something I am vocally opposed to but nonetheless seems to be the future, Colorado is expanding automated enforcement with speeding cameras issuing fines. Article says it will fine the RO regardless of the driver. Is that even legal? Regardless that isn't the only interesting part of this, they will operate via a pair of cameras that determine the average speed. I've only heard about this in Sydney, Australia. Is there anywhere else in the states that use this technique?

A bill to increase transportation funding in Oregon via increased taxes has passed the house.

Crazier things have happened. I wouldn't rule it out this early.

Do you relish it?  Do you think these guys are the smart ones?

Maybe Kraft thinks it can catch more profits with honey than with vinegar. And I bet the bean counters love it.

It appears I am more pessimistic on the Rams, Broncos, and Commies than anyone else.

Yeah, taking the bus down that was weird after doing the hike.

Yeah, the steps are pretty nice -- for the uphill. When you go down them, it kills the knees.

Quote from: Quillz on September 02, 2025, 04:51:00 PMI-5 between Redding, CA and Eugene, OR is a real gem. Fairly high elevation, passes by Shasta, follows the Shasta River Canyon, passes by Mt Ashland and then follows the Rogue River. Nothing like the boring drive through the Central Valley.

I did the Sacramento River Canyon segment of I-5 as a stand-alone blog feature on my page.  Very scenic corridor, especially for an Interstate.
