Texas highways: state sighways, FM, RM, UR roads.

You think they would be smart and not have a Interstate highway, Interstate Spur, US Highway, US Spur, State Highway, State Spur, FM/RM/UR series, loops, all have the same number. Like only have one 10, 20, 30, 45, ect. Why have so many roads with the same number? And it isn't like its El Paso and Houston, Austin and Dallas aren't that far apart that they could confuse people.

It wouldn't be a problem if, say, Loop 342 were in El Paso and TX 342 were in Texarkana, but TXDOT tends to put highways with the same number (FM 121 and TX 121) in the same area.  And US 70 actually crosses TX 70.

Well, Texas is big and very few would get confused, but when you have FOUR digit highways, is there really the need to repeat?

Think how many states have hundreds of county roads near state highways, etc

I've lived in the DFW area for a dozen years and have never seen an Urban road sign.

Between Sherman and Dallas, there is an FM 121 that crosses US 75 a short distance before SH 121. A TxDot engineer told me that there is a custom sign to tell drivers not to confuse the two.

I drive past these signs almost daily. The street name has been changed to Van Alstyne Parkway, but the FM 121 text remains.

(The 1-mile BGS, by the way, has been through the mill since this picture was made. Been hit and knocked over at least twice, but the original sign remains, albeit dented up pretty good.)

I think there is one in SW Fort Worth. I believe there's an exit from I-20 somewhere between 35W and 30. Maybe hwy 2871?
