Minnesota Highway Shield Gallery v2.0

Numbered Highways

Officially Named Highways and Unofficially Named Highways

Scenic Byways Current and Alternate/Obsolete designs

I guess this forum limits images to 800 pixels wide, the originals are hosted on Facebook because unlike photobucket I could create custom sizes and they were sized for the old Facebook limit of 955 pixesl. These were one of my favorite but least viewed pieces from my old web site as kind of a scrapbook of highways I've traveled, I've recreated it here at roughly double the resolution.

I take it a blue square means a number which is signed, but you have not yet photographed?

I know where there is not just a state-named I-35, but a '57 spec example!

Yes and where?

There's some ambiguity what should be included here. Generally I try to reflect what are legally state routes, regardless of what is signed in the field. MN 120 is still signed but is not shown here since the route was deleted, except there is a filler for MN 232 since there's never been a formal turnback agreement. This gallery reflects the three routes that were removed by the last legislature, but still shows MN 361, which is defunct but I missed because removing the route didn't require legislative action since Constitutional Route 1 was presumeably shifte to the interstate. 295, 309, and 333 are stand-ins from Wikipedia since these routes aren't signed.

Heres a link to the orignal Facebook album with the original sizes- The original masters I made are in PSP format but the ones one Facebook are originally sized, minimully compressed JPEGs.- I'm not sure if it'll work for you or not because all my other Facebook stuff is set to friends only.

Your "old web site" isn't online still anymore is it?  Judging by the pics you have posted here you seem to take good photos, I'd be interested in seeing more of them online.

where?

old US-65 in Geneva.

also, mainline southbound in Duluth, just south of the US-53 merge.  a next to impossible shot to get at freeway speed.

No, my old site "North Star Highways" is gone. For a number of reasons I wasn't able to keep it fresh and updated and other people did some of what I was trying to do better, and Earthlink eventually figured out that Comcast had forced me to switch away from them as an ISP so they killed my email accounts and associated web space with them. I do have a lot more photos than what I post- hundreds from this year alone, the trouble is organizing photos by theme until I have 10 of a theme ready for a post, as well as time spent editing, uploading and posting them, and I still have only a free account at Photobucket so I can't go nuts with posting.

At the risk of another egg-on-my-face "I looked it up but I was still incorrect" moment -MN-120 is still defined as a legislative route (I would say 117 as a guess), and 232 finally is turned back after MnDOT paved it in gold or some such improvement, according to a correspondent from that area. Since 117 or whatever that legislative route is could be moved onto I-494/694, no legislative action is needed to ultimately turn back 120. Plus, that same route is used to temporarily (?) define MN-244 north of its end-to-end terminus with 120 after legislative route 244 was removed.
