Drove that route a couple of weeks ago,  is very well signed.  The signage should help 66 travelers to follow the old alignment.

Yes. Goes well with State Route 66 farther west.

They want you to be sure that it's a through road and you won't have to immediately use the old wooden planks from back in the day.

While Historic U.S. 66 is well signed with trailblazers and brown historic route markers on poles in Arizona and other 66 states, it is not commonly that way in California. The typical signage "Historic Route 66" on a brown sign in white text is posted at freeway offramps where I-15 or I-40 intersect Old US 66. However, once on the road, there are few if any actual reassurance signs, especially in remote areas. San Bernardino County, which maintains substantial segments of 66 through the Mojave Desert, reported that the historic signs originally placed were constantly an object for theft, so they devised a plan to paint the US 66 shield onto the pavement. That is the most typical way to know you're on the historic 66 in San Bernardino County, at least until the county added the blue and gold pentagon markers. I still have not found the time to go see how well the county route is signed, although I did see some pentagon markers on the I-15 freeway itself. Once of these days, I'll get back out there for some pictures of the new signs.

Kind of reminds me of what happened here in Louisiana. State Route 3 was the precursor to US 61 and US 65, and when the old number was removed, the West Feliciana Parish highway department posted parish shields for PR 3 along the old road.
