Odder still is the sign along the southbound side of I-294, just beyond the split with I-94 at Lake-Cook Road.  It says "I-294 Begins, I-94 Ends", which is clearly absurd because it does no such thing and happily runs for another 400 miles to Port Huron, MI.   https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Underwood+Avenue,+Wauwatosa,+WI&hl=en&ll=42.152627,-87.874521&spn=0.006451,0.009645&sll=43.049572,-88.059089&sspn=0.012717,0.01929&oq=UnderWauwatosa,+WI&t=h&hnear=Underwood+Ave,+Wauwatosa,+Wisconsin+53213&z=17&layer=c&cbll=42.152543,-87.87453&panoid=Pkuq9TrzIXB0kxTlimcwow&cbp=12,174.79,,0,7.91

I-94 splits off to the east and follows the Edens Spur and you know that because of that huge junction with all of those signs that you just passed.

I like this alternate sign, since the one posted there is only for the folks who took the wrong ramp.

Reminds me of this one I posted in the thread "Signs for Idiots":

It's on I-80/294 west/north just after I-94 has left for the Bishop Ford Freeway.

The END Muskogee Turnpike sign has been removed, probably because it was stupid and confusing.  There was a similar assembly northbound, but the Muskogee Turnpike sign has also been removed.

^^ The OTA could have done something more similar to ISTHA here.

What's that about NJ?

At the similiar I-76/NJ 42 line, there are no signs marking the end or begin point of either highway, other than a standard 0.0 MP (and I can't verify if that even exists).

MA has done a good job lately of putting begin/end signs on its interstates.  Seen them where I-84 meets the Mass Pike, and at either end of I-291 and I-391.

About 2003, MassHighway (now MassDOT) specifically did a project to install begin/end markers, as well as "XX Ends 1/2 Mile" signs on their Interstates and other freeways statewide.  This work was done at the same time as a similar project to expand their overpass street name signs (which were orignally installed only on I-95 (128) and I-93 in the immediate Boston area) to other freeways statewide.

MO likes using this language. It posted something similar for "I-49 ends, continue on US 71" in Kansas City.
Yep.  Here's that sign from a few months ago, before I-49 shields were posted:

Was there ever an "I-64 EAST ENDS, CONTINUE ON US 40 EAST (and maybe US 61 North?)"

IIRC, it's gone now as of July 2012.  I didn't see any such sign at the I-64/I-70/US-40/US-61 interchange either.

Also, though no Interstates involved, we passed the replacement of this one today:

(US 1&9 do not begin here)

My photo on Steve's site below; not a BGS but still has one route ending and another beginning; neither really begins or ends here but the centerline mileages do end and begin here.

Sign is underneath the Ohio Turnpike on I-76 EB, just before 76 exits to join the turnpike and 80 leaves it and heads east on the same roadway.
Also shown is one of a couple remaining Ohio postmile markers for I-80S and its I-76 counterpart, interestingly different by 0.03 miles. The same difference of 0.03 appears on a sign in Summit County, and that is odd because the postmiles reset to 0 at county lines. Maybe the convention for the postmile used at an underpass changed somehow? 0.03 miles is still like 160 feet, way more than the width of overpasses. Hmm.

There used to be an "End I-64 west Continue on US 61 North" near the I-70 interchange

For some reason there's a 'Route' banner above the I-290 shield at the western beginning of I-290 at I-90 in Schaumburg:
