Does anyone know anything about SunPass asking people to replace transponders? My brother-in-law called a little while ago just to say hi and he mentioned getting a letter from SunPass telling him to replace his device. He asked if I'd gotten one and I said no; after thinking about it, I noted to him that I have the Mini (sticker) and he has the portable (hard plastic case). I understand they're changing the portable devices in some way, so maybe that's why I didn't get a letter.

Anyone know the details? I know my Mini worked fine in June and I was assuming it'll work fine Christmas week on the Bee Line and Route 417 en route to the Auto Train.

They're replacing the older transponders, the ones that beeped as you paid a toll.

Thanks! I passed the link on to my brother-in-law. That explains why I didn't get a letter but he did.

Older transponders will no longer be excepted very soon. They need the channel on the readers for interoperability purposes.

FYI I just bought a SunPass mini online and the $4.99 fee no longer gets applied to your account balance like it used to.

It has been that way for over a year now. Oh well. They did reduce the price of the SunPass Portable from $25 to $20 though.
