I dont understand all the hate for DST. If it weren't for DST, the sun would be up at 4:30 am here in the summer. Its much better being able to take a walk outside at 9:30 pm when its still light, then being woken up really early in the morning. But... thats what you get for living at 50 degrees north, 16 hour days either way.
It would make more sense to begin DST at the end of April and end it at the end of September, rather than the end of March/end of October, but I agree it's quite useful during the summer months since the sun would rise at half past 2 o'clock in the morning here otherwise, and thanks to DST it's a more reasonable 3:30 AM. :P

Except that IIRC DST in the US starts in mid-March and ends in early November! :ded: In my country we are in permanent DST :sombrero:, and when DST is in force we have a double DST!

Its not mid march. It is march 8

Let's be technical: It starts on the 2nd Sunday in March.  March 8th is the earliest it can occur.  March 14th is the latest.

MLB also hasn't shortened the season in order to complete the World Series by October 21.

It needs to be year round.  No clock switching at all.  People cry because they are confused twice a year.

No, they are confused 8 gazillion times a year by everything.  They probably pull up to the wrong side of the gas pump at least once a week, even though they've had the car since 2007.

Solar noon:

Green: Before 12:00
White: 12:00
Light red: 12:30
Medium red: 1:00
Dark red: 2:00

With daylight savings time, this map would change. All of the map would become red (except Greenland), and anything that's already red would become a much darker red.

In addition, the Uniform Time Act of 1966, as well as the Energy Policy Act of 2005, allows states to opt out of DST, but do not allow states to permanently observe DST; states who observe DST must follow the national switchover dates (DST must start on the second Sunday of March and end on the first Sunday of November).  To have the same effect requires states to switch time zones and opt out of DST, and any changes of time zone boundaries have to be approved by the federal government.

I used to work in a gas station and it was funny, they'd go to the wrong side then drive completely around to the other side and still get it wrong.  It's amazing how stupid many people are.

Why do you have such a hardon for Tim? Are you jealous that he knows more about Kentucky highways than you do?

I also noticed that you announced that you weren't going to the Wisconsin meet the day after Tim announced that he was going.

Oh sure, just ignore the government conspiracy to get us to use digital clocks so we'll stop seeing the whole day and won't take the long view anymore, thus making us more succeptible to perverted suggestion.  Enjoy your life with blinders on, sucker!

I don't hit from that side of the plate.  :bigass:

I just found it odd that someone else used a phrase that heretofore I'd only heard him use, that's all. Which I explained to Scott privately.

QuoteI also noticed that you announced that you weren't going to the Wisconsin meet the day after Tim announced that he was going.

I announced my likely non-attendance at that meet pretty much when it was first scheduled. I'd love to go to Madison. I've never been there and it would give me a good opportunity to visit some new counties and possibly even clinch I-39 in Illinois, but I can't afford the trip. And even if I could, I don't have enough vacation time accrued to be able to take off work.
