Two completley different highways in line with each other

I was noticing the straight line that US 301 travels between Waldo, FL and just north of Baldwin,FL.  If you look at the map and draw an imaginary line to continue with it north of Baldwin in the direction its heading, you will find yourself in line with I-95 in GA just after it begins its north easterly turn with the Atlantic Coastline?

Funny thing is how many people traveling those two roads between the two points projected actually use both!  Many people for Tampa and SW Florida take I-95 S Bound to FL A1A in Yulee and connect to US 301 just to avoid I-4.  Some will even use I-295's western beltway to I-10 to US 301 accomplishing the very same.

I though how ironic that one is.  Now I am not suggesting that the gap be filled, but to point out how interesting that fact is.  Any other such instances of two major routes forming one corridor that people travel that coincidentally end up this way.

There must be some way to match up I-84 in Connecticut and I-495 in Massachusetts. (The closest I could get to a straight line was from exit 15 to 17 on I-84 and from exit 28 to 42 on I-495.)

Old US-6 west of Davenport and IA-163/University Ave in Des Moines. Further east, a few miles of I-80 falls onto this line as well.

I don't see it as ironic, given the topography (and swamps) involved.

Maybe the swamps might be it, but the fact remains I do not think there ever was an intent to link the two routes together in the first place.  It is a just an accident that happened that particular way.

K-25 between Leoti and Russell Springs / K-184 between I-70 and Brewster.  I've actually know people who prefer to use the gravel roads in between as a shortcut for at least part of the route between Leoti and Atwood; I can't remember if they would cut over on US-40 or go all the way up to I-70 (part of which is paved).

I imagine this is a fairly common scenario in the plains states, where roads are laid out on a grid.
