I've noticed multiple times buildings marked on google maps (Like churches) in the middle of freeway interchanges, when I check out the streetview of it there is no building there (Like it is supposed to be).
Here are some examples of it.

Does anyone know what is up with this?

Some of them are deliberate spam, placed at busy locations to get noticed. You'll see a lot of it in industries that give kickbacks for referrals, often telecom companies (cell phone, landline/DSL, and satellite/cable). Some of them are places that get imported from some directory without proper addresses and get randomly dumped somewhere in the city or zip code.

When you find them, click on Suggest an Edit at the bottom of the box, set 'Place is permanently closed or doesn't exist' to Yes, and select 'Doesn't exist'. As long as the business hasn't been claimed and verified through Google My Business, it will usually get cleared out pretty quick. Most of the true junk is unclaimed, because it takes a fair bit more effort to spam with verified listings.

That explains it. I'll keep an eye out for those on the goog.

A similar problem exists with place/business markers showing up on a 45-degree birds-eye view of a downtown/urban area building, but they are actually behind it, or just up the street from it.

Most often I see (among the misplaced points or markers) ones in the street that aren't on the actual place since Google doesn't always know what biz the marking belongs with, or their address numbering is wacky or just off.

Now if I could just get whoever it is here that has GSV magic fingers to fix a cemetery that is consistently labeled as a campground >ugh<.....

Here's a "building", but not a location name itself. This is because the freeway is new.

Edit: nevermind, that was just a bug. Clearing them out now.
