Idaho replaces US 95 mile marker 420 with 419.9

Idaho has replaced US 95 mile marker 420 with mile marker 419.9.  Apparently signs that have the number 420 are prone to being stolen.

Well, there's also the 455 miles of I-40 in Tennessee. And the 419.4 miles of I-40 in North Carolina come close (close enough that there might be a 420 mile marker).

For what it's worth, here is the list of every Interstate with more than 419 miles in a single state. As you can see, this is, as jeffandnicole says, "#westofthemississippiproblems."

Texas I-10 881.00
California I-05 796.53
Texas I-20 636.08
Montana I-90 551.68
Florida I-75 470.88
New Mexico I-25 462.12
Nebraska I-80 455.32
Tennessee I-40 455.28
Colorado I-70 451.04
Kansas I-70 424.15
North Carolina I-40 419.40

The route that serves as my avatar suffers the same issue. It's a #muricaproblem lol

Unless I am mistaken or missing something, I-35 in Texas is roughly 503 miles long.

It is. I'm not sure how I missed that.

Maybe because it is broken into two sections (Laredo-Hillsboro and Denton-OK border).

I was going to suggest metrification, but that would make the problems worse as a ton of km markers 420 would appear. In fact, all but two interstates of CtrlAltDel's list, as well as I-35E in TX, would have a km marker 666 as opposed to the longest two as currently stands; and the longest three would even run into four digits, which currently doesn't happen anywhere.
Supporter of the construction of several running gags, including I-366 with a speed limit of 85 mph (137 km/h) and the Hypotenuse.

Please note that I may mention "invalid" FM channels, i.e. ending in an even number or down to 87.5. These are valid in Europe.

And Atlanta escaped having an I-420 run through the southern end of the city decades ago (but still got GA 154/166 placed in that location).

Here's the problem. The I-35 that's just I-35 is 407.20 miles long, which is under the cutoff. However, the mileage for I-35E is included in mile markers and exit numbers of the northern leg of I-35, which gives the I-35 and I-35E combo a length of 407.20 + 96.76 = 503.96 miles. So, there is a mile (and exit) 420 on this corridor, but it's on I-35E. (For what it's worth, I-35W is 85.20 miles long, and the mile markers start at 0.)

I count 55 routes with a length of 420 km, unless I made some subtle mistake again. Also, 666 km is about 413 miles, which gives 12 routes, with another one just shy of that.

I just saw an article on this on Facebook, which mentioned that Washington and Colorado had to do the same.

Cue the chorus of idiots claiming that must be an error since Washington isn't that big, and I-90 doesn't even hit 300 miles.  (They forgot that the Olympic Peninsula is a thing that exists, and US 12 and SR 20 both break 420 miles.)

Nope, no 420 mile marker. However there is this.

I-80 in Nebraska not only has a 420 mile marker, but an Exit 420 as well.

IIRC back in the day there was an US 420 in Wyoming, which is currently Alt US 14.

You are correct. For some reason I thought 666 km were 434 miles instead of 414.

It'll be a cold day in hell before we ever see 666 km signs in America! Even I-19 is only 100 km long, so there you go.

And seeing that I-5 in CA and I-10 in TX are the only two interstates to go longer than 700 miles in a single state, I wonder if this problem exists with milepost 666 on these roads?

This problem does not exist in California because we don't install MUTCD-style green mileposts along our highways except for short segments of US 6 and CA-58.

For what it's worth, there are no exits at mile 666 on I-5 or US 101.  There is also no exit at mile 420 on I-5 but there is on US 101 at Millbrae Avenue in the San Francisco Bay Area.

If I owned a dam and decided to donate it to charity, would I be giving a dam? I'm sure that might be a first because no one really gives a dam.

Seems like there is pent-up demand for road signs with "420" on them.  Someone needs to start making them and set up shop next to a dispensary.

In Oregon the Beltline Road was supposed to be SR 69.  ODOT decided that the potential theft problem could be dealt with by calling the route SR 569 and signed it as such.  So far no one has stolen any of the signs!

If you want a real MJ score, go to California and get a Weed Police badge...LOL!  Yes, there really is a small town called Weed and it is at the junction of I-5 and US 97.

Rick
US 101 is THE backbone of the Pacific coast from Bandon OR to Willits CA.  Industry, tourism and local traffic would be gone or severely crippled without it being in functioning condition in BOTH states.

silverback1065

US 69 has theft problems, but does I-69 have the same sign theft problems?
