Interstate shield specs?

It's not hard to find examples for every style of U.S. shield*, and I assume the same for Interstate shields, but are there any clear-cut [good] examples of all ~3 styles? Google Images doesn't help.  :banghead:

You're missing the California cut-out unless it's the same shape as the 1948 shield but removes the state name and increase the size of the numerals.

Sign Specification from Caltrans...

* 24-inch shields have 10 inch numerals
* 30-inch shields have 12 inch numerals
These are the only two sizes specified for independent-mount shields.  There are no specs for a 36 or 48 inch shield.

I will try to help with some of the I-shields i own or have owned .....

18x18  Still a few running around out there but not officially used long)


21x18 'cute sheild'


24x24 1957 spec (8" number")


24x24 1961 spec (10" number)


24x30 3-di state-named


Original neutered I-shield (24x24)


Later state-named I-shield with the narrower red crown


Newer neutered I-shield (24x24)


Neutered 24x30 3-di


I am certain there are quite a few others I missed...

If I were at home, I could post the relevant spec pages from the Ohio Sign Design Manual...

From Ohio Sign Design Manual:



Note, the main drawing for the 3-digit shield is actually the same as the main drawing for the 2-digit shield with different dimension labels; however, if the sign is constructed using the specified dimensions, it will in fact come out as a wide shield.
