I will be taking a long awaited trip from CO to OH later this month and want to capture much of my trip via dashcam video.

Besides the GoPro route, are there any decent dashcams for under $100 or are all the better versions in the $150+ echelon.

What have you used, and how do they hold up?  Positives/Negatives?

Thanx in advance.

I purchased a Garmin action camera when I thought I was going to Buffalo last summer.  They're generally cheaper than GoPro.  I haven't had occasion to use it yet, so I can't comment on how well it works.

You might consider perusing the forum at http://projectroadrush.freeforums.net/ , which is a dashcammers' forum.

I have a Chinese-made device called a DVR 207 that I got from a place in New York called SpyTec. It's adequate. Not spectacular but does the job. Today when I was pulling into BJ's it picked up a woman sideswiping the Mercedes SUV parked next to her and driving off without leaving a note; it also picked up the audio of me reading out her license-plate number. I encountered the Mercedes's owner after I parked my car and I gave him my e-mail address so he can contact me for the video.

Two dashcam YouTube channels to check out for their video cameras' image quality are Bad Drivers of Connecticut and Bad Drivers of Napa Valley; the latter channel just got a new dashcam last month and the picture quality looks pretty good.

Storage is going to be a primary concern for you if you want to video most of the trip. I have a Panasonic cam with a built-in 80 GB hard drive that will save about 14 hours worth of video, plus it has an SD card slot, but the biggest card I've tried with it is a 32 GB card so I don't know if it will work with bigger cards or not. It's not a HD camcorder, though. I like it because of the big storage, and also because it has a power adapter that allows me to run it via a lighter plug accessory.

I might suggest searching out the "Freewayjim" Facebook group and reading some of the posts and documents there about recommendations.
