Remember when radio would stop playing songs and you'd never hear them again?

Remember when radio stations would play the same songs at the same time every day?  Or was that just one station in Grand Rapids?

In the mid 80s, there was an AM/FM combo in Detroit which each played the exact playlist at almost the same time (separate DJs for the AM and the FM stations).  I believe it was because of an FCC law which limited the number of hours per day that an AM station and FM station could simulcast the exact same broadcast, which they probably only did in the later evening & overnight hours.

I grew up in Lafayette, Louisiana, on the "black" side of town. I remember a certain urban station playing Harold Melvin's "Wake Up Everybody" at the same time every morning; I was on the bus on the way to school at that time of day.

In addition to Lost 45s, I've been listening to old episodes of American Top 40 and Rick Dees's countdowns to get more variety in my music diet.

Some stuff I sure wish they'd stop playing - like Cypress Hill.

If you think FM radio sucks, then explaining the phantasmagorical phenomenon of XM Radio's "The Blend" will probably get me kicked off this site.
Oh god, Sirius/XM is horrible. That's what we have at our shop and it blows my mind how short their rotation is. I can't believe people actually pay for this crap. Thank god car stereos have USB ports and BlueTooth now.

A lot of people involuntarily listen to the radio 8+ hours a day such as at indoor blue-collar jobs.

Exactly.  I even listened to the radio for entire shifts at Cracker Barrel.  (One night I had to listen to "We Can't Stop" by Miley Cyrus, a song that would be near the top of a personal "worst songs I have ever heard" list, at least 7 times back in 2013. )

Ah yes. 2013. The year that I kept hearing "The Way" by Ariana Grande no matter where I went. I hated buying groceries that year. :ded: She's one of the most overrated singers, IMO.

You may want to avoid doughnut shops as well.   :-D   (sorry, that joke never gets old to me)
