the number 31415926535897932384626433832795028841 is prime.

this just happens to be the first 38 digits of pi, omitting the decimal point.

3, 31, 314159, and the number above are the first four numbers for which this fact is true.

the fifth number with this property has 16208 digits.

I am not memorizing that many digits of pi.  38 is more than sufficient: if one knows the diameter of the universe, one can use that 38-digit approximation of pi and calculate its circumference with a margin of error smaller than the size of an electron.

Assuming the two facts in that sentence to be connected, and assuming a missing % sign, you've just tabbed 108.5656484119829448% of the population.

Question:  Do you know the diameter of the universe?  If not, then how do you know the margin of error in said calculation?

Question:  Do you know the diameter of the universe?

yes.  it's about 12 meters.

actually, I did a bit of research and the diameter of the universe in electron-diameters is on the order of 10^41, which means that 38 digits of pi is just barely not enough to make that claim... change it to "diameter of a hydrogen atom", which is about 10000 times as large, and we're all set, even accounting for a bit of quibble margin.

I guess I always thought the size of the universe was "UNK".  Isn't there serious debate on that, including the possiblity of its being infinitely large?

The diameter of the observable universe is approximately 46 billion light-years.  The size of the universe as a whole is unknown.  I don't know how the hypothesis of an universe of infinite size can be squared with a total particle count of 2 x 1079.

You could possibly hear Robin Ficker on the other side of the universe when he would heckle and otherwise annoy NBA teams visiting the Washington Bullets when they played at the old USAir Arena (f/k/a Capital Centre) in Landover, Maryland.

The northwestern corner of Missouri follows the river instead of the straight line of the rest of the border because of the Platte Purchase. The Platte Purchase Bridge is nowhere near the Platte Purchase.

However, he remained as a salaried session player during the subsequent tour for The Wall, being the only member of the band to profit because the tour was a significant financial loss.
