Photo from the I-71 Highway guide here on AARoads. 88 miles to Louisville, KY on Interstate 71 in Florence, KY.

What is really unusual here is the city that is further away is first on the sign.

That's because this stretch of 71 is multiplexed with 75.   Louisville is the control city for 71 (the lower number, hence listed first); Lexington is the control city for 75.  FWIW, the distance between Louisville and Lexington is about 77 miles.
2di's clinched: 44, 66, 68, 71, 72, 74, 78, 83, 84(east), 86(east), 88(east), 96

Highways I've lived on M-43, M-185, US-127

^^^

But this stretch of road carries I-75's mile markers. I-75 is also dominant in its concurrency with I-64.

In fact, I-64 gets short shrift in every concurrency with higher-numbered N-S routes -- 77, 81, 95.
Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

Hundred n' seventeen 'klicks to San Bernardino.

'klick is a slang term for kilometre. Would be nice if the US used the metric system, but that is not the case (yet).
