I have some I-310s, but that's it for now:

Jim

I'll also start with an I-310.  From US 90 in Kenner, Louisiana.  May 25, 2004.

Texas 310 from I-45.  August 30, 2003.

And always happy to have an excuse to play this one, this time for it's US 310.  It is (or at least, was) in Burgess Junction, Wyoming, on US 14.  This was taken July 25, 1999.

Photos I post are my own unless otherwise noted.

Utah 308, an entrance road to Kodachrome Basin State Park, is disjointed from the rest of the state highway system.  This is the only sign in existence, so far as I know.

I should have gotten a WI-312 on a trip two years ago to the Twin Cities, but I forgot it v_v. So let's post a WI-310 instead.

A question of personal taste: For a take-it-yourself challenge, do you prefer photos to come off the camera without any doctoring? I mentioned to my wife that I have been editing the photos I have taken on my recent trips. She said that if she were participating in the challenge, she wouldn't like the doctoring; in fact, it would make her question the authenticity of the photos.

With shields I usually crop out windshield glare and the dashboard if they happen to be in the pics I take behind the wheel.  Personally I would prefer to make my photos on the road as clean as possible, the big one for me I haven't figured out all that well is over exposure given I have a light colored dash.

Even my photos of stuff like National Parks or even landscapes I tend to edit...even more heavily.  I really try to avoid having people in my pictures unless they are part of the trip, usually that is accomplished with patience but sometimes I have to crop them out.  Panoramics can be an issue due to a photo not lining up properly or having some piece of the terrain that doesn't jive well with that kind of photo.  In that regard I try to make the photos look as timeless as possible, it works great for monochrome versions I've found.

Either way I've been cleaning my photos regardless of the type the last couple years.  I went back and even fixed the older stuff where I could with cropping, lighting, shadowing, or other edits to make them closer in line with my more recent stuff....which I think happens to be infinitely better.

I'm going to go ahead and get this three-way backtrack out of the way:

As for as modifying images: most - if not nearly all - photographers in the world modify their images somewhat. Changing tint, hues, white balance, contrast, color levels, color curves, image cropping, and tilting are all rather common modifications. Photography works best in ideal lighting  conditions, being in the right place at the right time, and having the right settings for the equipment on hand. But it doesn't always occur in ideal conditions.

I'll sometimes crop out things that detract for the subject matter, change colors to a more accurate representation of what my eyes actually see (excluding black and white), change levels to increase or decrease white/black contrast, tilt images so they're somewhat even, remove some color noise, or sharpen/soften images. I'll also blot out sensor dust that appears on the sensor, or spots on the windshield. Windshields soften images somewhat, they provide undesirable tint and glare. Not every photo has perfect exposure, either.

I would draw the line at modifying images so that the subject matter becomes different. In the case of sign or road photography, removing (or exchanging) words or numbers, changing symbols, re-positioning signs would be off-limits. if presented as "fact", or "found in the field". Unless the changes are explained, that would be considered beguiling. As an example, it's one thing to increase or tinker with contrast to make an image more true to the image your eyes see, but to state that....say, a sign as blue and yellow which is truly black and white through color modifications would be unfair.

Every photo I post here, if it was taken from my car, has been edited at least somewhat. The dashboard on which my phone mount is placed is curved, which results in all my photos being taken at an angle of roughly 4 degrees off from horizontal. In addition, a good chunk of both the dashboard and my car's hood is within the capture area. So at a minimum, those areas are cropped out and the photo is rotated to account for that. I also resize the photos I post here to a resolution of no higher than 800x450 (I know the forum software does that automatically, but I do it to cut down on bandwidth).

The only "destructive" modifications I make are sometimes to censor out other cars' license plates. Some of us do that, some of us don't. I just feel a little uncomfortable posting that sort of thing publicly without the driver's permission.

Anyway, no 313 for me, but I have another cluster of numbers coming up soon. I'm saving my backtracks at this point for once my state goes dark in the 400s.
